When I was on page 10, a really cute girl asked if this was any good. Now that I'm halfway through, I hope she comes back and asks again, so I can tell her how beautiful it is. Then we can discuss it over coffee. I'm pretty good at coffee shop aesthetics.

I'm desperate to see how it ends, but I dread the finishing of it. Tanizaki's subtlety is so breathtaking.

I bought this in California this morning and probably would have knocked it all out on the flight home today if I hadn't decided to save a little for later, if I hadn't decided to switch to my darling Debo, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire during our final descent.

Debo may not be the best writer of the Mitford sisters, but at 90, she's still sharp as a tack and funny as ever. And I still love her.
