putting it down after 450 pages. The first part of the book is not much like the middle and I'm no longer interested. It has become a space military book instead of a space ancient artifact and exploration book. BORING

So much more interesting to read the main character.

ugh... main character doesn't show up until 50pages in? I guess I respect the world building but this is not my preferred style to read. If this was a book 1 I'd put it down, but I kinda want to know the next step in the story. So many words, I feel like I'm reading a former English major and honors student who loves words.

I put this down. Somewhere mid-way through chapter 2 I realized that I hate math. I never knew I hated math, so either this book made me hate it, or I hated it all along and this book showed me that I do. Or maybe I changed. I did plenty of math-related things in life, like getting degrees in Computer Science, minoring in Physics, and working professionally as a programmer, but I've no interest in finishing this book

This book is great and fun. Unless the rest of it is bad, it is getting 5 stars.

Chapter 3 has a section mentioning the AT&T breakup, but doesn't raise the point that after the AT&T breakup, the following 20 years were the most innovative for telecom products. Cordless phones, answering machines, caller id, multiline, all of these things changed drastically and breaking up the monopoly largely contributed to that.
