The book has finally started. I don’t blame Anna but she definitely did go a bit far.

Gaslight: Not Tolstoy writing that Kitty has lost her good looks like a year into her marriage when Kitty is based off his irl love interest. Wtf is wrong with him.
Gatekeep: It is too bad Anna has become obsessed, it is not a good look.
Girlboss: If Dolly doesn’t get that divorce I’m throwing hands with Oblonsky

Part 5 introduced Countess Lydia Ivanovna, the new villain. Everyone seemed very unreasonable in this chapter, and Tolstoy managed to admire the calves of the gentlemen of the bedchamber several times. It also seems like Tolstoy has something against the French language, only using it to speak crude phrases.

Anna was somehow the worst character in this chapter. Why won’t she just get a divorce!! And now I see why Karenin is much better, he’s a sly man but at least he knows how to make a decision.
I am undecided about Kitty and Levin but they seem happy for now.
Dolly parsing our relationship advice is a little cheap, just because you’re ok with cheating and living in denial doesn’t mean other people want that!

This section left me feeling a bit sorry for Levin but he is still too silly to be taken seriously - his emotions are all over and he takes everything way too seriously. Oblonsky sucks. The Karenins are the only couple story line I can bear right now
