This is a very hard read but I can't help but appreciate some of Wally Lamb's stylistic and characterization decisions. I can appreciate that from a distance but actually reading it is BRUTAL.

I previously dnfed it bc I wasn't prepared for the stylistic choice. This book is a single breathless looping sentence with no periods. It reads like a panic attack, war never ends and neither does this stream of consciousness. It just won a pulitzer so now I'm rethinking the DNF - it sounded entirely up my alley, the writing was just exhausting. we'll see if it hits this time 👀

You know a book hits when you have to flip back through it from literally page one to put together the consequences of the reveal it dropped 60% of the way through. NOBODY does it like Toni Morrison holy crud.

every time I think ive reached the max limit of f*cked up this book has to offer we cross into a new threshold. gonna have to do an iceberg just of how messed up this book gets. 5 stars.

This book is absolutely stunning. I feel for Yeta so deeply and see so much of my own experience in hers. The lore behind the merfolk is so dark but strangely beautiful in its darkness. I'm listening to the audiobook and Daveed Diggs, as always, is incredible.

N.K. Jemisin starting us off strong with a corrupt, bigoted, psychopathic cop pov supernatural/psychological horror story. Yeeeeesh.

Edelweiss ARC - This book is addictive, but in a sour patch kids way. The PoV character is definitively a love-to-hate idiotic egotist and the other MC is a horrible delight. The world building is surprisingly in depth so far. Very hard to put down and I probably wouldn't have if I wasn't dead tired.

Bee’s story is still my fave so far but I’m truly loving this power of cats to just be lovely and bring people together. Also the scarce details we’re getting about the mysterious clinic. I don’t know if it’s a puzzle that can be solved but you know i’m collecting evidence like a Private Investigator.

This is so wholesome and lovely and I literally couldn't put it down. Very easy smooth read as well.

Welp, I hit the first one that left me sobbing. Once again, I cannot recommend this book enough. It's got some mid essays, but the vast majority are great and the ones that gut punch you do so with gusto.

I've encountered several essays that didn't resonate with me and Many that did and I think that's beautiful. Seriously recommending this to anyone interested in queer theory, personal queer narratives, and thinking very hard about and relating a lot to horror movies.

I've never seen someone get as close to describing my personal conception of gender as Carrow Narby in "Indescribable," which is both apt and hilarious.

Favorite essay so far is The Girl, The Well, and The Ring by Zefir Lisowski. I related way too much and will be reading and watching The Ring through that lens later this year.

I have 60 pages to go and I had to put the book down bc i hit the Point of No Return and the anxiety was so strong I could not go on. I read primarily horror and got so stressed out by this kissing book I couldn't continue. send help.

oops I read it almost all in one sitting. my bad. this is probably gonna get 5 stars unless it bungles the ending. I don't think it's gonna bungle the ending tho.

Who put their political thriller in my silly holiday kissing book??? (I'm not going to be able to put this down until I'm done reading it, am I?)

Louis Creed came to believe that the last really happy day of his life was March 24, 1984. The things that were to come, poised above them like a killing sashweight, were still over seven weeks in the future, but looking over those seven weeks he found nothing which stood out with the same color. He supposed that even if none of those terrible things had happened, he would have remembered the day forever.

I'm on Chapter 12 and I feel like this could've been like 5 chapters instead of 12 of them. The slowest of builds to suspense. Things are starting to happen now tho which is fun.

This book is very charming, wistful, with a pinch of hope.
