I have 60 pages to go and I had to put the book down bc i hit the Point of No Return and the anxiety was so strong I could not go on. I read primarily horror and got so stressed out by this kissing book I couldn't continue. send help.

oops I read it almost all in one sitting. my bad. this is probably gonna get 5 stars unless it bungles the ending. I don't think it's gonna bungle the ending tho.

Who put their political thriller in my silly holiday kissing book??? (I'm not going to be able to put this down until I'm done reading it, am I?)

Louis Creed came to believe that the last really happy day of his life was March 24, 1984. The things that were to come, poised above them like a killing sashweight, were still over seven weeks in the future, but looking over those seven weeks he found nothing which stood out with the same color. He supposed that even if none of those terrible things had happened, he would have remembered the day forever.

I'm on Chapter 12 and I feel like this could've been like 5 chapters instead of 12 of them. The slowest of builds to suspense. Things are starting to happen now tho which is fun.

This book is very charming, wistful, with a pinch of hope.

Loving the ace rep. The modern queer jargon in a high fantasy setting is a little jarring but I'm not mad about it. Why can't a shapeshifting monster know the difference between ace and allosexuals and casually refer to someone as an enby? Kinda love it tbh?

The tension is so thick I can cut it with a knife. I had to force myself to put the book down so I could go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight. So good!

Officially super invested in the characters and how this is going to progress. I also love that Shesheshen has essentially married Homily in her mind after like a week max. Very medieval u-haul of them.

I have so many questions about the plot and I'm very compelled by the characters - a perfect soup.

I received this title as a free ARC through Edelweiss - and I have to say, it's off to a truly excellent start. Giving all the high fantasy d&d-adjacent setting goodness but also has a really compelling emotional core from the protagonist, as well as consideration of the day to day of an undead. The exposition has also been very natural and left me wanting to know more - all in 27 pages! Can't wait to keep reading.

It's a classic for a reason. I'm not the biggest fan of the writing style, but the story is excellent and the dystopian future it presents hits home a little too hard sometimes. Definitely a slowburn but since it's picked up the action hasn't stopped. When the writing is good it's great, but when it isn't it's just kind of meh. Nevertheless, a must-read.

HOOOEY this book! This should be in the horror section. The number of times I've been reading and without even noticing ended up knee deep in a nightmare and had to go back and reread bc it happened so fast? Just wow.

About time I get to this one. Nobody writes like Toni Morrison. Goddamn.

I knew this was foreshadowing but I did not expect what came from it. Jesus, this book.

This book is oddly charming. Not my usual fare but very enjoyable nevertheless.

this book is not going anywhere near where I even vaguely anticipated. not that I had any idea where it was going to begin with.

THIS BOOK IS WEIRD, MAN. I'm living for it, but it's a weird one. Oddly reminds me of I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison, especially the Alex pov bits so far. Enjoying it and having a pretty good time following it, though I struggled to keep everything together for the first chapter. Now I'm just kind of along for the ride.

I don't even like romance but I'm loving this book 😂😂

It feels like a Victorian era classic in all the very best ways. As a huge Carmilla fan, the writing is on the wall already. And it certainly doesn't help that the wallpaper is arsenic green 👀

I wanted to like this book so bad but it's simply not good and is thoroughly not clicking with me. I'm powering through so I can give it a fair review but I almost dnf'd it and it's sitting at 1.5 stars in my brain rn. it's so close to being something interesting but it manages to miss the mark every time which is genuinely upsetting for me.

The plot twist I hoped would happen is pretty certainly not the case which is leaving this book a lot flatter than I had hoped. Entertaining but not as compelling as I would've liked. Kinda just reading it to get through it at this point unfortunately.
