Oh good, being intersex, having both male and female reproductive organs and registering as intersex is forbidden and basically illegal in this society. Whhhyyyy???

I get that this is the point of the book, why the Rounds have their own society on a station orbiting Jupiter. But what exactly is this book saying about transgender people and intersex people who currently exist? It's ridiculous. I can't stand it.

"a transgender" and "fluid transgenders" yeah yeah, no that's great, awesome and not incorrect terminology at all *eye roll*

All this talk about people "switching sexes on a whim," and changing "their gender like they change their clothes" is just kinda gross. That's not what being transgender is.

There's a conflation of sex and gender here and maybe a misunderstanding of the two. Lost in translation? Idk.

I love the voice of Kiko so far, and her struggles with being half-Japanese and her mom who is just...ugh, I hate her lol. I didn't expect the parental abuse storyline, and I also didn't expect the sexual abuse storyline, which both hit me hard. So I'm gonna come back to this book when I'm in the right headspace to keep reading.

This book is so popular, I have to return it to the library again lol. But I'm really loving it so far. Part 1 was awesome, I love the academy environment, especially the last section that really started to talk about the gods and hint at Rin's past. Good stuff.

Returning to the library for now. Really good so far, though. I'm into it.
