The Young Readers version was an excellent journey through history. Although the title might make you think the author will describe 6 invented contraptions, the book describes 6 areas of invention: light, sound, glass, cold, clean and time. I came away with a renewed gratitude for so many tools we take for granted. And I had quite a few WOW moments at the audacity and genius behind invention.

Every teacher should read this book. I am deeply grateful to Dr Ferguson for her work to observe with clear eyes and an open mind, to listen to youth, and to share with such insight.

The information on each work area (cyber security, website coding, robotics, etc) is useful and clearly explained. The sidebars in computer history are informative and fun. The interviews sometimes get in the way of the chapter themes and add too much length to the book.
