“The 9/11 thing”. Barbara, where were you on 9/11? In the wake of the terrorist attack, Appalachian people contributed a disproportionate number of servicemen to the US Armed Forces. Glossing over it with less than a paragraph makes no sense. Especially for some low down on his luck roughneck starting high school. Little kids got radicalized by the event, did you already forget?
