I loved the beginning of this book and I'm finding it thought-provoking, but it's also gone in some directions that I've found less interesting. It's easy for me to lose track of the main argument of a chapter, and the audio format means I can't skim back and remind myself how we got here.

I set this aside for a while because it's a challenging read - it demands thoughtfulness and engagement - and I'm glad I picked it up again today for the same reason.

this chapter on weight gain during pregnancy is infuriating... mostly because it includes anecdotes where doctors lecture pregnant women about their weight at every check-up.

This is the 3rd parenting book I've started this year... (no, I'm not pregnant, just curious) we'll see if it's the first one I finish.

There's good information in this book... and there's also a lot of white-parents-as-default (ex. only telling us the race of the interviewee when they're POC, letting white parents' racist comments about their Asian-American neighbors slide with little more than an acknowledgement of "stereotyping")

I was thinking about putting this book down, but the author just turned it around for me with this one line: "I should pause here to note that this conversation... that all couples have about who does what -- happens at the expense of a more important conversation: does the state have an obligation or moral imperative to help out [parents]?" Winning me back with structural arguments!

there's some gross, unhelpful stuff in the marriage chapter... quotes from moms and dads that are just real heteronormative and stereotypical and un-funny

I've only just started this ebook, which I got from the library, and I already know I'm going to buy a physical copy from my local queer sex shop (I've seen it in stock there before <3)
