loving it so far, love that the first dragon rider we see is a woman and there isn’t any “oh my god a WOMAN” type shit going on!

What the absolute fuck am i reading right now

chuckled out loud so many times while reading this today and I don’t think that’s ever happened

this is injecting a sense of sleepiness in me… i feel head randomly dropping and drifting in and out of consciousness. the feeling when you’re reading the same sentence over and over unintentionally but you don’t even register that you’re reading anything. idk. but im a third done so i’ll push through and hope it picks up

i’m glad i pushed through the first few more “boring” parts, this story intrigues me so much… and the voice of the book is ever so charming!

the footnote took up 80% of 3 pages ???? but no complaints (yet)… susanna clarke has this talent to make the narrators in her books evet so charming

it reminds me of babel (book of the DECADE) so far but a much more long winded version. don’t know how long it’ll take me to finish this… doesn’t seem to be much of a plot so far

also i keep losing track of the names

i have begun to tackle this book after 6 months of putting it off. i told myself (read: am telling myself as i type this) to read at least 25 pages a day, which gives me just enough time to finish it by christmas!

just got through the first fight scene, why was it written so… cleanly?? methodical? mundane? don’t know how to describe it but it didn’t feel very fighty

listening to this as an audiobook but probably continuing on paper, seems a bit repetitive and hard to believe so far?

sitting down with a coffee and reading this for the next hour or so. high expectations because i do love a unique culinary based plot (if i cant eat food ill read it) and also this book cost a shit ton for no reason

very intriguing so far! the 'she persisted' college guy jiwon met is giving me bad vibes ("nice guy" vibes) and george... oh boy....

can't wait to see how this plays out

does this voice manifest to fuel their victim's deepest insecurities and drive them to suicide?? in the wife's case it's of her daughter and maybe how she abandoned her and now needs to protect/rescue her to make up for it, as for her sister i don't know if the lipstick cap thing was a hallucination or not but if it is, it's confirming her fear and possibly driving her to a similar fate??

ivebeen listening to this as an audiobook so far and i think i need to pick it up as a physical book because i have the tendency to zone out and miss chunks which is especially damning for a book like piranesi with intricate intricate details

loving the world building so far and cant wait to further explore how the relationship betw pira & the other develops — the tussle between knowledge & power

i can’t really explain it but it’s quite obvious that the book is a translation?
nonetheless drawing me in so far, very interested to find out why wai is so deadset on learning chinese + the cleanliness (hyperfixations, i’d think?) meanwhile narrator gives me an icky vibe with how her views of wai are so one-sided & how she constantly thinks wai is showing off when clearly (to the reader) it’s something else
