This book is an excellent read. I haven’t sat down & read like this in a very long time!

I’m really enjoying this book so far!

This book finally gave some credit to Kylie Jenner for the popularity of Snapchat, but only to mention that its value tanked when she said she no longer used it. Also, approaching the end of the book & she finally mentions race & content creators who aren’t white. So far, it was barely even a page. We’ll see if she brings it up again.

The chapter on Tumblr was unfulfilling. It was extremely surface level and then its decline was blamed on Yahoo! purchasing it, the site never being redesigned, and the incorrect notion that it wasn’t friendly for use on a cellphone. (Tumblr’s simplistic design made it great for using on your phone for a lot of things.)

While I know this book can’t possibly cover every single blog site or social media site that has ever graced the internet, I do find it disappointing that she didn’t cover LiveJournal at all. (I doubt this will be something that comes up later at any great length, as she already covered Tumblr, which came after LJ.)

Just started this book. There was a part in the intro that rubbed me the wrong way. It basically said that the internet is dismissed by “traditionalists” as a vacant fad. This book was published in 2023, I don’t think anyone views the internet as a fad, they know it’s here to stay, & they know its power.

Ok, it also kind of annoys me that he spells “fuckin’” like “fucken,” instead. Fuckin’ is short for fucking, where is the “e” in that?

I’m so sick of reading about fucking coin tricks. I know there is meaning behind it and that it’s a facet of the main character (with a ridiculous name), but it’s tedious and annoying.
