I’m ashamed at how unaware I was of what Muslims faced here in America after 9/11. Deeply saddened by the things our government does to people who they don’t view as American.

Tess is a pill! Goodness. They should've kept Becca away from her.

This should be required reading in high school, in college and especially in history and education courses. For any that ignorant to how systemic racism functions in our society, it's made painfully clear on the pages of this text. Dear God, America has a serious debt to reconcile with those it has marginalized and oppressed.

Her life was simply amazing. Love the historical context she provides and the look she gives into the lives of "my people, my people." She depicts the beauty of AA culture superbly.

This book is a doozy- in length and in content. I struggle with the realization that the lack of social capital continues to be a factor in our lack of educational and financial success. No, I don't struggle with it. It infuriates me.

So far so good. While the author makes it clear that her book is for white people, I think it is also a valuable read for those of us who do work in the area of diversity and equity.

Currently on Chapter 19 and can't say enough about this book. It is such a great read and quite insightful. I've learned so much about her, about them both.

"...I let my mind drift, imagining God laying out the hills of Nsukka with his wide white hands...." And therein lies part of the problem with Christianity in Nigeria.

This book is so angering. I'm on the chapter "H" and it's I'm pissed how he's being treated by other blacks because he's a "convict". They're acting as if they didn't know why black men were locked up so nonchalantly and precariously for no legal reason at all. Ugh.

This book is not at all what I thought it would be. It starts in medias res and beautifully flashbacks at various intervals to give more pertinent info about the characters that helps to drive the plot forward. The story line is quite intriguing.
