Between this book and Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus, I am learning a huge amount about Tourette's in a short amount of time.

This book so far reminds me of the beginning of The Midnight Library. The bottom has dropped out of this woman's world and she really does feel like she has nothing left to live for.

Wait, we're at this point in the book and Social Services is only *now* coming into the picture? Why didn't Sloane's boss tell her to call them before things escalated and Sloane lost her job? This book means well, but it is not very realistic. In a place where Social Services exists, there is no need for a library employee to get themselves fired over concerns about an elderly patron.

I tell you what, our library administration would never allow a patron to be this verbally abusive to their staff. Arthur would have been banned from our library a long time ago if he said to us any the cruel, demeaning things he says to Sloane. But I know not every library protects their staff the way ours does; we are very lucky.

Wow the twists just keep coming. This book is crazy, and I have the uncomfortable feeling it's going to end on a cliffhanger.

This feels like a wannabe Game of Thrones if it knew it was dependent on BookTok for its marketing. It reads very much like Fourth Wing.

This book is reminding me why I hate prequels, no matter how good they are. We already know Haymitch wins these games and goes on to be a depressed drunkard forced to mentor each and every doomed District 12 tribute until Katniss and Peeta 24 years later. We know he and Lenore Dove can't end up together. What is the point of this book?

I am immensely enjoying this fictional clandestine affair between the Duke of Buckingham and the Queen of France because in real life the Duke was gay and in a relationship with the King of England. But Dumas does paint a dramatic portrait of star-crossed lovers.

This is starting to remind me of Romeo and Juliet, with no lovers' A Plot. Dudes just attacking each other in the streets and starting brawls because they belong to different groups who don't like each other. Also, can the Musketeers shoot? Despite their name, I've only seen them use swords so far.

I picked this book up to cap off Pride Month, but so far it's been nothing but a depressing litany of being on the receiving end of near-constant homophobia. Where do people get off treating others this way? Throwing beer on a random stranger while screaming "faggot!" Cornering an acquaintance at a party yelling that you're going to rape them to convince them they're not gay. I can't believe this is someone's life.

I admit so far I'm not really a fan of this author's obvious disdain for Millennials, witty as his remarks are.

Wow, the TV show so far was a surprisingly faithful adaptation of The Last Wish. They changed what order they told the stories in, but that's about all so far.

I know this book is super popular, but wow, it could have used another pass by a proofreader before going out into the world. I should not have to constantly re-read sentences in order to figure out what the author was trying to say. They also need to learn the tense difference between "may" and "might."

It is on this page that the book abruptly turns into the author processing her response to the COVID pandemic.

This protagonist would be a villain in most stories: the brainwashed child soldier who can't let go of her cult's programming and will carry out her mission no matter what. Strong Hitler Youth-meets-al Qaeda vibes.

I hope this lead character gets easier to follow around as the book progresses. At the moment she's an arrogant, cruel bully.

This book finally managed to surprise me. After telegraphing most of the plot early (not necessarily a bad thing, being straightforward), there was at last a slight twist I didn't see coming.

This book is a very stressful read, as I knew it would be.

Mara Wilson is the absolute perfect narrator for this audiobook.

I think I'm starting to see why people are praising this book so much. Under the purple prose is a story that has become gripping. And if the love triangle goes where I hope it's going at this point then it's a big step.

I can tell this is a first novel. Lots of grand ideas and purple prose. I can also see the stereotypical YA love triangle being set up already and am wincing in anticipation.

Wow, Rosaline's parents are the worst. They're so demeaning, acting like they're supportive but the "support" comes at the cost of constant derision. Note to self: if your adult kid makes choices you don't agree with, at some point you have to accept it and not continue to punish them.

This book is basically what would happen if Bella Swan had magic and attended evil Hogwarts.
