This book is written in very formal academic prose, which I think masks the quality of its insights. It feels like Fukuyama gets kicks out of writing in an authoritative voice. This means you’ve really got to have your wits about you, as he is making quite adventurous and imaginative claims, which probably don’t stand up to reason. Will place you deep into thoughts about human nature and political structures.

This is a frustrating read. The prose is florid and each sentence is twice as long as necessary. She will introduce metaphors which are then ditched immediately not to be mentioned again, instead replaced with other imagery. However, the book is VERY well researched (there are a few hundred pages of citations), which means it keeps you with it. I have learn a lot, I only wish she had a more stringent editor...
