So excited, started reading this to my daughter!

This is SO GOOD!!

Currently reading The Wife in the Attic by Rose Lerner (f/f Jane Eyre retelling, yay!). I had previously read The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins by mistake, thinking it was actually The Wife in the Attic, and was very disappointed by the lack of f/f.

Absolutely loving it so far... Also the cover is boss.

Wow. I haven't read a single one of the best books nominees for this year. That's... impressive.

I'm not even sure why I'm reading this.

I feel kinda dirty reading this (peoples' adulation of Ted Bundy as THE serial killer/supreme gentleman/geniusiest genius who ever geniused is super gross). But also curious about Ann Rule, so here we go...

Tracey, I got curious because I saw you reading these and I am LOVING it!

Now all I can think is that I just don't care about whether the rich boys find the dead king, and how the girl will overcome her prophecy/curse to be with the one she loves. It's all very focused on the glowing, exultant tenderness of young manhood, and I'm not about that anymore.

Just isn't working for me. If I'd read this 20 years ago I'd have adored it passionately. Great characterization, evocative descriptions, an inchoate sense of yearning and potential in the world, one unique girl exploring a mystery with four intriguing boys, a romance...

"Shit happens, life is cruel and arbitrary and so is war" is not a novel's worth of insight.

Yeesh this is a trudge. I can't tell if the book is badly copyedited or if I'm just really bouncing off Campbell's prose.

So I'm really enjoying this Star Trek fanfic about Vulcans...

Why can't we have a subby hero who isn't a masochist? Just for variety's sake?

So a weird little digression with the gist that there is no scientific consensus on global warming. To which I say-- what?

Enjoying the awful men and looking forward to Anyanwu jerking them up short.

Ugh, will this book never end??

Generic title is very generic.

So far our hero has met two women, and in both cases we get a description of the "tops of [their] breasts" as they bend over. I really dislike how Grossman writes women, but the premise of the book really interests me. We'll see how long I can hold out.

So far this is hitting all my "Sherlock after the Three Year Absence" feels, and I am loving it.

Barely in and I'm already getting a little choked up. Women! Working Together! Doing Math!

Gonna DNF on this one, just not to my taste-- I just don't understand being electrically attracted to someone just based on seeing their body, and so far that's all the connection the characters share.

DNF- now that the novelty has worn off, the stylistic quirks are more grating and my goodness things move slow. Too many books in this world to continue slaving away at this one.
