If you care anything at all about believable characters, this is not the book for you. The “weird” things that happen to the main Vu area yet are so much more believable than her response to those things. It’s going into my DNF.

I just finished Soy Sauce for Beginners and gave it 2 stars. I wasn't impressed. It read like the author took the plot from a current 30- something fluff romance and changed ethnicities. The only part that rang true for me was the character's responsibility to her family. I walked away feeling this story tried too hard to portray overt assimilation.

I just finished Soy Sauce for Beginners and gave it 3 stars. The character was unbelievable as a 30 something Asian woman. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought the author had an Asian fetish instead of being Asian. Not saying Asians don't make bad choices but too much prodigal daughter and not enough realistic portrayal of Asian life. I'm disappointed.

I just finished The Scarlet Deep: An Elemental World Novel and gave it 5 stars.

I just finished Life's a Witch (Witches of Karma) (Karma's Witches Book 1) and gave it 3 stars.

So far, I love love love this short story collection!

DNF. It didn't hook me by the third paragraph. I didn't care for the way the story has turned into a group adventure from the introspective experience.

Oh. My. God. I cannot put this book down!

I'm already charmed by the Introduction! “The officer was unsure of what welcome he would find and how receptive the chief might be to his request. He did not even know whether the chief could speak a word of English. But the officer’s cautious introduction was met by a wide smile. It turned out the chief knew three words. ‘Hello, Mr Bond,’ he said, before offering his hand and his help."

I can't do it anymore. This one is going back to my To Read list.

I will force myself to finish this book. Crazy cool concept but so whacked with language. This is my new 'Pillars of the Earth' challenge.
