You look around, you notice things and you explore them. That's a gift. And Kahn couldn't have said it better: The inspiration to learn comes from the way we live. Through our conscious being. We sense the role of nature that made us (p.18)

Art involves choice, and everything that man does, he does in art (p.18). Kahn's thought instantly reminded me of Peter Zumthor's Thinking Architecture (1998). Zumthor argues that architecture does not simply stand alone, and it is through various forms of art that the subject of matter can be brought to life and Kahn underlines that most of this comes from inspirations and how the living is able to express oneself.

Regardless of the essential differences in their ontological and artistic technique, all arts are fundamentally engaged in one of the same issue: the representation of the human existential experience and it's motif unavoidably projects a concept of lived space (p.10)

Interesting reading that leads oneself to look at architecture in different perspectives. It is something that we are able to see and feel, on which usually originates from our memories: 'the reservoirs of the architectural atmospheres and images explored'. (pg. 8)

Started reading the little book this morning and I just want to continue reading it. It's very interesting how there's still things we should be learning and this book is certainly a great one when it comes to bring awareness of what is still happening in our society. I would love to read some other works by Chimamanda N'gozi.

It's good how you end up learning things from this book that might end up changing the way we see things. Quite interesting, I have to say.

"We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand" (Part Two, Pg. 76) One of the lines that caught my attention when reading Part Two of The Alchemist. I felt like I had the urge to continue my reading on this book because it's an interesting one.

Part 2 from this book has been very interesting. As a matter of fact, there are several lines I really like such as: "I don't want to change anything, because I don't know how to deal with change. I'm used to the way I am". With this I was able to connect the dots in my mind based on my personal experiences, I understood the old merchant man. (on page 47 of 197)

Part one was quite interesting and attention grabbing. I found it familiar and was able to connect the dots when Paulo Coelho mentions about the spoon, which is certainly one of the lessons we humans ought to keep in mind.
Favourite quote:"I'm like everyone else - I see the world in terms of what I would like to see happen, not what actually does." (Part One, Pg.40)

The more I read this book the more a pay close a attention at the small details which is interesting. For some reason, Arnold's best friend (Rowdy) reminds me of a character from Smoke Signals (1998, Chris Eyre). Both of these characters seem to share the same way of living - living with a alcoholic dad. At some point this also makes them to have same behaviour such as not being in "good humor" most of the time.

This book has been good so far. Because I see to be a visual learner, it's easy for my to truly understand this book by looking at the amusing illustrations. Quote of the day: “The world, even the smallest parts of it, is filled with things you don't know."
