Don’t really care for the descriptions of the girls…such as waddling around. And why do they have to all be naked by the river. I feel like only a man would write this scene

85% in and I don’t know if I want to find out what happened to Bear. Excellent book so far. Love the character development.

So far there are a lot of characters and I don’t know if I like any of them.

Decided to dnf. So unrealistic and unmeaningful.

Ok, I pretty much hate anything (books, movies, tv shows) that have anything to do with the cartel, but this author’s descriptions of grief was some of the best I’ve ever read. So I am compelled to carry on.

So far finding this very enjoyable. The banter between Dellarobia and Dovie is just hysterical in a dry humor sort of way

Again I don’t buy it. After what happened with Jonah there us no way Lily would just jump into another relationship so soon. No way

Again, teens today don’t “ask people out” like a minute after meeting, at least not what I’ve seen of my kids and their friends. Very outdated no longer realistic. Also, I don’t need so much detail of the love scenes with kids. Who is the intended audience here?

Also, the book already feels dated. There was a boom box in the tree house. Honestly I don’t know if my teen even knows what a boom box is. The music would have just been streaming from his phone with a portable speaker. The whole dating thing is being described like when I was a teen which is nothing like today. Today teens are less likely to do one on one dates, its more group gathering.

I also have to say I’m a bit reserved about this author because a couple of her previous book left me felling a bit manipulated so to be honest, I don’t trust her

The book is not linear in time and there are all these bits being dropped so at times I’m having deja vu. I’ll read a passage and feel like I’ve already read it before. But when I try to search for it I can’t find it. She keeps referencing the bruise she got after the fencing match when he lost it, but I can’t find more about that story.

So far I’m liking this!

This is a re read for me. I read this in 2012 when I gave it 3 stars. This was the first Atwood book that I had read. Now, she is one of my favorite authors. “The year of the flood” is one of my favorite books of all time. So I am reading it again with new eyes to see what I think of it now.

I also realized that part of the reason I was not liking the book was because of the narration of the audiobook. Thankfully I had the kindle version too so I switched over to that.

I thought the first 10% was utterly delightful but then it fell very flat for me. I was struggling to keep going. At 60% I almost threw in the towel but I started thinking about the one theme that I think is particularly interesting. I always like the theme of watching regular people developing into heroes , but here we have a regular person turning into a villain.

Having a hard time finding an audible book to listen too after finishing up the fantastically narrated Troubled Blood.

Best book I’ve read in a long time. Listening to the audiobook and the narrator is fantastic

So I’ve read the first chapter and I’ve highlighted something like a quarter of it. I’m already sucked in!!!

Don’t know why I would read this book in the midst of the corona virus. I must be a little bit crazy. But I just bought the audiobook of the next book The year of the flood which is one of my all time favorite books in audio. So I’m going to listen to it again.

So I haven’t been too sure about this book so far until now 59% in and at the story of the football game and now I am hooked!
