Two things almost made me stop reading: the MC is in her mid-20s & is said to have streamed something on Facebook live. As my 20-something kids have told me a hundred times, no one their age would be caught dead with a Facebook account (should be TikTok or Instagram).

The second thing was when the MC was wearing flats to church and then changed into heels because her mom disapproved. Really?

This book is awful but I'm past the halfway point.

It’s bad enough that a coworker and I are debating splitting the book up so we each only read half. How do things like this get published? It’s painful to read, zero nuance, every character is a stereotype, the dialogue was so unnatural I laughed out loud.

I have to read this for my work book club and for our community read and I really really don't like it.

"Every night, wrapped in his duvet, Benedict would watch endless episodes of Murder, She Wrote, Monk and Midsomer Murders. He learnt to distrust vicars, visiting historians, and once-famous actors whose characters had no obvious link to the plot." lol

uggggh. I really dislike having to read about the rise of fascism in Europe right now, and while the Mitford family is fascinating, this book makes them come across as boring. The writing is tedious.

I almost threw this book across the library today while reading it at work. It's terrible in so many ways.

DNF. The structure is making me nutty—after a single line of dialogue there are multiple paragraphs about the speaker’s thoughts and feelings before the other character in the conversation gets to speak. By that time I’ve forgotten how the conversation started. This happens over and over 😬 Stop interrupting your characters!

Enjoying this second title in the series but just got to the part where they view a library patron's search history from when he used a public computer several days earlier and no no no no. No public library should have computers that aren't reset in between users, apparently this library doesn't give a whit about patron privacy.

Reading this bc I’m helping with the library’s discussion group and it is so not my cup of tea.
