Even with a lot going on in my life, I keep coming back to this book, remembering the story and the characters. Loving the noir feel to many of the scenes/settings and the dynamics between the MCs.

Life's getting in the way of me finishing this one quicker, but every time I pick it up, it's engaging and fun. It's picking up, and I'm interested to see where it goes next.

Definitely a unique story that's keeping my curious about what's going to happen next.

Look, I get it. It's an EPIC Fantasy, but I can only take so much of the comings and goings of late teen boys from a medieval hotel while very little happens.

A lot of travel and world building. Still interested, but looking for the next bit of action.

Got completely sucked in at the 100 page mark right after my last update. Totally invested, and it's all starting to make sense.

Don't let the first 30 pages of sheep herding and shearing (the woes of worldbuilding) stop you from enjoying the rest of it. This far in, and I'm invested in the MCs and world.

A quirky NA book with an MC that both takes himself super seriously and not so seriously at all simultaneously. It's a refreshing change of pace from my usual thrillers I read. Interested to see how it wraps up.

This book takes you places you hate, you think are vile, and you get uncomfortable in your skin, just as the MC is, and it makes you want to hate it, but when you realize the emotions it's eliciting, the dormant insecurities and fears, and I'm learning to love it, in all its dysfunctional glory.

More of the same from the last update. Great, cringy dialogue, bipolar inner monologue which is clearly deliberate at this point even if it makes for an ebb and flow that can be jarring as a reader considering the topics discussed. Additionally, some of the characters don't seem realistic (e.g. 13 year old girls with a deep understanding of adult behavior, town history, and interpersonal psychological warfare.

As Flynn's debut novel, it's already impressive this far in though not without its faults. Dialogue with Willis is enthralling, but encounters with Camille's family are awkward in an artificial way. The inner monologue oscillates between bland with interesting observations and ultra-shocking without warning.

The book is making more sense as a discovery adventure. It is entertaining on those grounds even if there isn't too much drama.

Act II started very intense and is now settling in. Still waiting for a true villain to appear, and I'd love if the protagonists were put in a little more peril but still a very interesting adventure.

Reminiscent of so many dystopic classic - 1984, Fahrenheit 451, Equilibrium (movie)...

The last 100 pages or so have brought the action to a screeching halt. Seems like such a wasted opportunity after all the work King did to build it up in the first 300 or so pages.

The book had taken a decidedly "Kingly" turn, and the action is finally heating up.

King really knows how to punch ya in the gut after getting attached to characters.

I'm a rare reader who has never read King's straight horror, but I'm hooked on this one as to be expected. I'm constantly amazed at how well he puts me in the characters' heads. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Obviously a compelling opening from King, but I feel like he gets away with breaking writing rules that would get an indie author into hot water with readers. Like using parentheses to express additional character thoughts or ignoring word economy in some places while showing mastery of it in others.

Great book - superb writing/editing, and story-telling. I was expecting more of a scifi thriller, and not such an intimate and emotional journey for the characters. That's the only reason I can think this book isn't more highly rated - a mismatch between its marketed audience and its sweet-spot audience.

The book is hitting its stride with some big reveals and cool scifi elements.

More time shifting and other disorienting events. LOVE IT!

Getting into the rhythm of the book. Very interesting shifts in timelines/perspectives.

Edge of my seat! How will this thing end???
