Struggling with the audiobook narration. Voices are fine but Natalie voice has a the cadence of reading an elegant grocery list.

Like many self help books, I long for a summary or cheat sheet instead of a whole book. The supporting stories make their point but are of limited interest to me.

I don’t think this is my genre. I’m still a bit lost on the characters and details. The premise of the mystery itself and the number of house guests is far fetched. The cozy interjections of recipes and decor get a little annoying, they are like neon billboard showing the reader how the FMC has more actual gracious talent than her frenemy Natasha. Old town detail is good, maybe heavy handed.

A story about power and fathers and sons and young love. So much of this so far overlaps with the first book, just a slightly different perspective. And Gordo’s childhood is so much like Ox’s. This makes it feel repetitive - where is the new storyline? Not seeing it yet, just the first book again. Want more Mark and Gordo as adults not boys. Or more “current” Ox and Joe.
