have given up (for the moment) on 'half asleep...' at about page 70; the liberties taken are not interesting enough to justify the lack of plausibility. LOVING 'Driving on the Rim' and am about to declare it McGuane's best novel.'Encounter' - enlightening and thought provoking as Kundera always is...Great to open up an Clarke book again, and I'm finding this has the same energy I loved in 'Childhood/2001/Rama.
