I completely forgot that all the Fae in this series live off the coast of Maine. Do they all have New Englander accents?

I do like that they’re all allowed to act like murderous freaks and have these weird animalistic-like features. I love seeing bizarre, gremlin, folklore-accurate fae instead of whatever SJM is writing.

Reread time because I really want to read the sequel series and the King of Elfhame… but it’s been five years since I’ve read these books and I only remember the vibes.

I love the themes tying this collection together- grief, loss, insecurity, identity. Analyzing the darker and sadder part of the human condition through sports is such a unique idea and is incredibly effective through the stories that Thompson has chosen to tell.

While he is written slightly better, Vis just feels like a male version of Alien Gastro-whatever her last name is.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m enjoying this, but I just can’t ignore the fact that if Vis were a female character he would be endlessly referred to as a Mary Sue and a poorly written character.
