Please let me remind myself that ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ is one of my favorite novels.

Fuck me, he’s actually a fraud, right? Nearly every short story is an overused repetitive non-fiction narrative disguised as fiction and dull as FUCK.

Shall we get drunk? Yes, let’s drink.

Were you wounded in battle? Yes. It’s nothing.

Were you in the war AND a writer? Calm down, Hem. We get it. FFS -__-

I feel like I’ve wasted sooooo much time reading this book about absolutely NOTHING and could have been reading anything else ever published. Ever. So far only about a combined six pages of prose have engaged me. The bit where they go fishing is nice. That’s it so far. There is no plot, no conflict, no character progression at ALL. So far. Some random thoughtful prose interwoven between the nondescript dialogue.

I don’t want to be too harsh too soon but I’m more than halfway into this novel and it is without question one of the worst books I’ve ever read. The main character is detestable at best. The narrative is loose. And holy GOD don’t get me started on how much I hate every single acknowledgement of modern slang. To be fair- SOME of the prose is clean. But for the most part I’m cringing on every page. Yikes!!!
