I’m already enjoying this much more than book two. Even though everyone is spread across the worlds and there are more questions than answers, it really feels like we’re finally getting to the core of everything. I feel awful for Lyra and Will though- they’re just kids but they’ve gone through so much. And so far it has only gotten harder and worse.

These authors understood the assignment. I like that these fae encounters all feel like they could coexist in the same universe as each other (except for maybe Birds Paint the Sky). There are tricksters, benevolent beings, indifferent creatures, and everything in between. Each story is so unique but they all understand the heart of what a “green man” story/being should be.

The voice acting in this was INCREDIBLE!! It was lovely getting to experience the story again filled with so much emotion. Quicksilver is one of those stories that’s worth reading multiple times- there are so many little things that I picked up on the second time.

I’d do anything for you Saitama! Those people don’t deserve you.

This felt like an introduction book- no complaints there. One Punch Man has so many unique and fun characters. I have no idea how they fit them all but somehow they make it work.

Each book is just a little bit better- reading them back to back you can really appreciate the improvements. I feel like the pacing has definitely gotten better too. “Could the you of tomorrow beat you today?” 8/10

I love One Punch Man in all its forms. Saitama never fails to make me chuckle- he’s just so silly. But I think the best part of One Punch Man is the underlying optimism and heart. There are scary monsters, Saitama feels aimless, and Genos lost everything but things get to dark. No matter how bleak things may seem, they keep fighting. The bonus comic- 200 yen- was definitely my favorite part of book 1. 8/10

There were so many “almost there” moments. This is purely a personal opinion, but the second book in a trilogy is usually the hardest to read because it’s the one where literally nothing goes right (and I don’t like when it feels like the characters can’t catch a break). Every time something good seemed to happen it was either not actually good or the moment was too short. 7/10

I was worried that we’d be waiting forever to meet Lyra again. And I was already missing the characters we had come to know and love from the first book. Luckily it seems there will be plenty changes in POV so we’ll get the story from all angles (and worlds). Right now I definitely have more questions than answers.

This book reads like a fairytale. I’m intrigues by the world we’ve been introduced to (and jealous that I don’t have a dæmon). The way the story continued to flow even as we were learning more and more about the world was flawless. Having young protagonist always helps because we the readers get to learn with them. The story kept a steady flow and never failed to have my interest piqued. 8/10

The Handmaid’s Tale introduced a world that was bleak and utilitarian. This book is a great example of an unreliable narrator; not that I don’t trust what Offred says but because she is a human living history and she herself even admits to not remember things and embellishing. So it makes sense that the story may feel like there are narrative holes from time to time. This is a book worth reading and discussing.

That was actually scary! I felt my heart racing and my muscles tensing. It so amazing how immersed in this world Pullman is able to make the reader feel.

This book was so obviously written by a woman because she has touched on fears I didn’t even realize I had. The scariest part is that Atwood puts in words what most women fear- it could happen at anytime and it would be easy because half the population would feel that “it was the right thing to do”. The narrator’s duality- from anger to acceptance or self-preservation to suicidal- feel so absolutely HUMAN.

I want a dæmon so bad. And I love the world that is being built around us. It’s so fascinating and Pullman will masterfully slip in new elements at the drop of a hat without disrupting the story’s cadence or feel. I love learning about the world through Lyra’s eyes and although I sense a lot of tough choices on the horizon, her wonder and innocence really propels the story to new heights.
