There is nothing I can write here that truly encompasses the impact this book has and the weight that it carries. I had no doubt that a book about the Holocaust written by a survivor would be a difficult and heart wrenching read but I also knew it would be worth it. The story that Josef Lewkowwicz and Michael Calvin worked together to put to paper is genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever read. 9.5/10

I still felt like we could do without the collection of short stories included with the main adventure. However, this time they did add symmetry to the book that I liked and they were more enjoyable at the beginning of the book as opposed to the end. The humor was once again top notch. I especially liked the bits where Holmes interacted with demons. This is quickly shaping up to be one of my favorite series. 6/10

There are no words for the emotions I feel reading a first hand account of what the Jewish people went through during WWII. Josef’s writing is beautiful- it’s straight to the point, pulling no punches but it also doesn’t feel… robotic, distant. He obviously poured his heart and soul into this.

I can’t wait to find out how much of what’s going on is supernatural and how much can be explained away. That’s one of the things I love about Warlock Holmes- it takes stories that we all know and keeps them interesting without changing the core (to a certain extent). I do miss Warlock more than I had expected I would.

This was an odd one. I think its biggest flaw was pacing- I felt like I was waiting for the story to start for the first quarter of the book. However, once the pieces of the story finally started to fall into place it was a very complex and interesting story. It was woven together phenomenally but some times the character hopping left me confused and it would take a couple pages to gather my bearings. 5/10

We’ve made it to the main story!! The Hound of the Baskerville‘s is the first Sherlock story I ever read so I’m really excited to see this interpretation.

This was such a fun read!! It was campy and unique with enjoyable characters and quick wit. And of course, plenty of dragons. It felt like a classic while sprinkling in some new twists. There were some loose ends and interesting world building that was introduced and then not really utilized (ie royalty not knowing how to read or write). Maybe there could be a sequel?! However, I really liked the ending of this book

This book is just flying by. But where is the hound? I can’t believe I’m almost halfway done and we haven’t started the Baskerville story yet. I do really like the mystery happening right now. Although, there are a lot of names that are hard to keep straight when I’m listening to it. It would probably be fine if I was reading. It also doesn’t help that I listen when I’m trying to find a parking spot lol.

The separate adventures are working better this time around. Maybe it’s because they’re at the beginning and are leading up to the main story instead of feeling like filler after. I think we’re going to start learning a bit more about Holmes in this book and I can’t wait! I’m excited to see more of Lestrade too.

I’m glad I kept going. There are still moments when I’m confused but I think the pieces are finally beginning to come together. It’s still pretty surreal and a little choppy but the underlying, narrative string is starting to pull taunt.

The story is so wonderfully woven together. I love seeing the characters all coming together while still having their own unique purpose. I agree with Cerise that Reginald is braver than he thinks and I hope he has a chance to prove it (to himself as well as us).

Already funnier than the first book. I am a bit confused about Holmes though- is he a zombie now? The demons cracks me up though.

Who knew flowers could cause such a kerfuffle? Already starting very strong with the second installment of Warlock Holmes. John Watson handles the stresses of his new life admirably and with much more grace and composure than I ever could. Already the book has made me chuckle and I’m thrilled to see where we are taken next in this fantastical London.

I’m giving this until I’m halfway through, but I’m on the fence about whether or not I want to keep reading. I find the writing style interesting however I expected the story to make more sense by now. There are just certain chapters that are kind of jarring and feel uncohesive with the rest of the story, but I’m also intrigued by the world being presented.

Oooo that got scary! I appreciate that the descriptions were balanced between not too graphic but also realistic about the situation. I can’t believe I’m already halfway through the book!! It’s going by too fast.

I always appreciate books that throw you right into the middle of the story- it shows quickly if an author is a good world builder or not. So far I’d say Alex Grass is a good world builder. Sometimes the chapters feel a little choppy but I also don’t think I’m far enough in to cast any real judgement. I can say this, I already really like Frank Attanasio.

I think this book would get a higher rating if it had just been one (or possibly two) large cases instead of one main one and then a lot of small, disjointed ones. That being said, I thought this was a really fun and refreshing take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s characters. The humor was fantastic and I think G. S. Denning crafted characters with thoughts and feeling that the reader could see and relate to. 6/10

This book is 100% exactly the type of story I enjoy reading. As if the dragons weren’t enough of a selling point (which knowing me, they are) there is also a cast of relatable, realistic characters. It’s funny but it’s also already clear that there’s a whole lot of heart as well. I absolutely ADORE The Last Unicorn and I dare say I’m going to love this book even more!

I still liked the first half better but this last story piqued my interest. I had almost forgotten how this book had started with Watson apologizing for “dooming us all”. I just wish all the stories had had a bit more of a connecting thread.

*Possible Spoilers* I’m not loving the second half of the book as much as the first. The writing hasn’t changed, I just don’t like the plotting. This half of the book has been made up of chapter long “mini cases”. I have enjoyed each case, but they’ve made the book feel in-cohesive. That’s not to say I’m not thoroughly enjoying Holmes and Watson’s adventures and the book.

Oh my gosh!! I actually shed tears over this book. I’ll admit, my expectations were a little low after book 2. But the waiting was worth it- everything came together so beautifully in this story and it was one of the most unique and creative thing I’ve ever read. 9/10
