I am having a really hard time getting into this one. The lady at B&N talked me into getting it as they had a special deal on it. Maybe it was a mistake?

Ugh, not sure if I will be able to make it through this one. Bathroom humor, childish humor, not very funny. So far, nothing like "A Man Called Ove," or "Remarkably Bright Creatures."

The writing is terrible. The story interesting, but I'm not sure how much of it is "true". Things are going way to easy for Lale. He has access to plenty of food, money, jewels, etc. I have read many non-fictions on this subject and on this camp, and these details just don't ring true.

Thought I would read the Newbery Award Winners. I have already read a few over the years, but I saw this was last years winner and it was available on the library audio app, so I thought I would give it a listen. The loud, whiney, kid voices are really irritating. Maybe you need to be a kid to like them.

I'm not sure what to think about this book. I loved 4 of his other books. Always a unique perspective. This one sounds like he is reading to a child, but the subject matter is not childish.

I am listening to this book, but I highly recommend buying the hard copy. This is a book that you can open to any page and enjoy the words you will read even if you didnt know anything about the book. The words are beautiful, something to savor.

I have not been a big fan of some of Kingsolver's other books, but this one is excellent. I am so sorry I had to return the audio to the library, but appreciate getting to read it for free. It will probably be months before I get it back again to complete it. Ugh. The reader really makes this a must "listen." So good!

I am finding this book entertaining, but wonder if the new translation has taken liberties to make it appealing in todays language. I am sure it could not possibly have been written in such a style. Although easy to understand and relate to, it seems unauthentic. I am listening to this, and the reader (George Guidall) is very good, but now it has to go back to the library app, and I will be on the waiting list again.

November is Native American Heritage Month. A great book I read about Native American heritage is Song of the Horseman by Mark Warren. It was a Georgia Author of the Year book for 2022 for Literary Fiction. I hope you will check it out.
Another good one is Journey of Crazy Horse by Joseph Marshall. This one is non-fiction.

Having a difficult time getting into this book. The writing is like a high schooler, or an immature and inexperienced writer. Hard to believe this writer has a best seller. Hope it gets better.

I don't understand the low ratings for this book, except that it looks as if many of the folks who gave it a low rating read it in middle school. I also don't think this book should be read by a middle schooler, as it seems VERY adult. A middle schooler could not understand the history and emotions that give this book its depth.
It is well written and believeable. I do abhor the aggressive and violent rodeo scenes.

Reading this book a second time. It is quite impressive. Too bad for Mr. Lansing that his book was not popular in his lifetime. In later years, it became hugely popular and for good reason. It is an amazing story, and it is well-written and researched.
