This book has me extending my drive to the office so I can listen some more. Some of Fremlin's observation about the gentle, everyday intimacy of married couples is so true that I felt as if she peeped into people's houses to write that. It's so striking how she can articulate the somewhat paradoxical balance of love and respect and expectations between spouses.

This is my second Drabble but I'm not at all enjoying it so far. It has some nice philosophical discussions especially on modern conscience and morality but it's failing to grab my attention and I'm resisting the urge to skim.

This is not like her other novels. Not much of a thriller and no nail-biting suspense so far. Reads more like a tense family drama.
A bit tedious at times.

Fascinating so far.

I keep getting the urge to warn Piranesi about the dangers in front of him. I keep getting frustrated that he does not connect the ideas with the outer world, but of course, he does not remember the outer world. So when he receives a new piece of information he keeps putting it in his map of the world he knows-- which is the house.

It's picking up. Now we're learning about Gwendolyn's "origin story", so to say.

The plot is becoming clearer now. While I struggled for the first 30% of the book, I am now interested in what happens next. From the onset we know it doesn't end well for Leo but how??

Absolutely bonkers so far. Hazy, fluid, meandering but interesting.

The ascent has started and already the path to Nuristan is full of adventures.
I liked Eric Newby's writing. His self-deprecation, wry humor, and descriptions of an Afghanistan--now largely lost and inaccessible to most of the world--spins a charming story.
I can see a lot of similarities with Bryson's a A Walk in the Woods, another excellent read.
