I find the stategy discussion and battles boring, it's really not my thing, but I do appreciate the way Kuang describes the unfathomable violence and destruction of war. I like that she's not afraid of hurting or even killing main characters. My problem is I'm not connecting enough emotionally with these characters to actually care if they get hurt or die lol

idk about some of the naming choices in this book cause how am I supposed to take a character seriously if they come from The Rat Province

this woman's world building is just at another level I swear.. so easy to get lost in it!

I don't think I can do it. I don't think I can finish this book. I'm THIS close to giving up. It's just SO BORING. It's nothing like I expected.
Someone who's read it... does it get more interesting after the first 100 pages? Should I go on reading it?

Loving this so far! The protagonist is such a little shit, I LOVE HIM.
Really, he's so funny and interesting! Also, this is the first book I read by Ness. His writing is lovely.

Here I am, trying AGAIN to force myself to like a John Green novel. It's just that... I like him as a person and as a youtuber, I like his podcast, I liked TFIOS, and I really really disliked many of his novels. Why?? I don't know! I just find them annoying and that annoys ME. Anyway, I'm going to try with this one. I have no expectations whatsoever. So far so good!
