Joyce intentionally uses alternate words like meny for many. Are there several alternatives for one word? I will pay attention to that

I want to list here the many attributes of the writing. 1. alliteration

I’ve decided to engage more with the text. Is there no narrator, one narrator or multiple narrators? I ask because I can’t follow the story and it makes me wonder if a novel has no story is there narration and if not then is there a point of view? Another thing - is there just event and descriptions or are their opinions?

Not exceed the limits of language but test where the breaking point is for language to still be powerful and beautiful. With this book, I would say so far the power isn’t here but beauty is.

I’m currently reading this aloud one page a day. Joyce isn’t writing a narrative for people to follow. As far as I can tell he is most interested in all the possible sounds the English language can make even though many words aren’t English and some are made up words. One challenge it seems he posed for himself was, can I exceed the limit of language and still create something original and beautiful?

I am torn - will this book help create for me a framework to approach big ideas or will this be a rehashing? Fortunately this is only 140 pages so if this book is a waste it won’t be a big time investment

this book is difficult because it focuses on film as a process with various pieces of equipment and skills and objectives. I am so use to viewing film as merely content I find it challenging to reengineer my thinking.

I wasn’t that fond of this novel but now that I am reading Spark in a different light - I wonder what I’ll think now.

I just started listening to Electric Spark so it’s good timing to start with The Comforters. This bio is less about the facts and more about how Spark presents the facts of her life and how they worked into her art. I forgot how ingenious this first novel is.

Any novel that discusses Guy Dubord is my kind of read! Should finish this up in a few days

Fascinating story about this artist last work - I thought he meant it for display after he death but nope - he was hoping to re-assemble it at the Philadelphia art museum

Is this a tight rope act? How much many words can I obscure and still make myself understood? If that is the method, why? I hope I’ll be able to get an answer by the time I finish.

Klein’s approach into the dystopian nature of our times, through a writer with whom she had been confused, makes her journey relatable, empathetic and bracing.

Reading this real slow and out loud - Even though I get only a sliver of the words it still makes sense and is quite funny

I am rereading this book and it is even better this time around

Finished the first section and I love the mock realism - characters in pursuit, in love, full of real
feeling occupying a fanciful world no one else could have created.

So I am reading an English translation but don’t see that listed on Goodreads. Am I missing something?

Trippy book - has the aura of JFK assassination.

Very readable with lots of keen insights but not sure it all adds up to a coherent vision of totalitarianism

I finished the elegies and they are amazing- want to reread them

I wish I hadn’t been so afraid of this book. I could have used it sooner. One key insight- while US private health may objectively add to GDP, the measure of those dollars compared to more effective and available healthcare in other countries, means that American dollars in this one regard, mislead and inflate treacherously

This is far more approachable than I was expecting. I think I will get a lot out of it. Stay tuned

Reading aloud makes appreciate the lyricism even more
