Okay honestly I feel like this svetlana cameo is weird even without me comparing it to the show? like svetlana is also only in one scene in the first book and it felt like she was only there to serve the plot which is the same vibe this scene has since she’s barely a character she’s just someone there to talk to so ilya can feel like he “opened up” to someone even though he still lacks a support network

It’s weird reading this scene with svetlana as someone who prefers show canon because like… show svetlana would never be this surprised about ilya being bi or being in love with shane nor would she go three years without talking to him

the concept of being in a situationship turned relationship with someone for over ten years and having never told them your middle name… men amaze me

Okay random and I know it’s just because I love languages but I think it would be interesting if the show decided to have shane actually speak Russian well? I think his guilt around not learning it fast enough is somewhat interesting but he honestly has enough to be guilty about already & it would be helpful and add an interesting dynamic to see him interact w/ ilya in Russian + he’d be easier to empathize w/

the concept of Hayden accidentally guessing that ilya is Shane’s secret boyfriend is so funny to me because I’ve read countless fics where he doesn’t come to that conclusion even with the most obvious evidence ever in his possession
