BEAUTIFUL this almost makes me miss being in school

i didn’t know what this book was about before starting it. smth smth specificity is relatable … this book is making me think and thinking is sad

so happy i picked this up in b&n will i ever finish it :// read a few stories & wow maybe fantasy is back! this is everything i love abt fantasy: whimsical vibes & magic but realism… ppl still have ppl problems but in fantastical settings. also gayy! this is what i want to write!

the stuff about her grandmothers dream is rly interesting — what is fiction vs reality

nationalism as reactionary without a truly internationalist component is really interesting and makes a lot of sense — i love how she outlines how the theory she subscribes to changes as she lives through different things (kind of like her radicalization?)

oh my god the part abt her daughter visiting her in prison is awful

I DIDNT KNOW THE DEATH PENALTY WAS OUTLAWED IN 1972 then fucking reinstated in 1976 HUH the supreme court is actually bullshit holy fuck

oh also just such a good anecdotal outlining of how the legal system is bullshit and only built to serve the state (+ whiteness as property?) — but also the state can completely bypass it whenever they want

i love how this book talks abt her radicalization and life as a revolutionary but also is full of knowledge. it brings together history (when she talks abt the civil war as war between 2 economies) + theory (when she talks about how armed struggle can only function as part of revolutionary war) + her own story (talking abt her relationship w her mom etc). + the way her narrative voice is telling all of this, so cool

i fear i will never finish this book

this is so fucking good, such a good breakdown of the surveillance of the black panther party — she describes her life like a horror movie but also doesn’t talk much about her feelings about it. most of this autobiography is written matter of factly and i wonder how this rhetorical choice works to tell her story (making me think about affect theory/propaganda and letting ppl come to their own conclusions idk)
