Man this book is so Percy Jackson coded but really hits close to home. I don’t reread books so this is a treat for me. The kids are even playing Halo. I mean c’mon! While simplistic, I’m loving it

This is interesting. I don’t want to spoil for anyone that sees this but this is definitely a mystery. Jean-Felix is right about that.

So far JF, MB, and P’s Pursuers. Many motives.

Dude I’m so into this book. There’s so much going on and I’m finding most of the plots to be very interesting. I haven’t felt this pulled into a book in a long time.

Let’s goooo

I lied when I said I was done reading tonight. I AM ENVELOPED BROTHER.

This is so interesting and I’m barely scratching the surface. I like the way this story is split up from perspectives. I do think each side has characters I’m more interested in. So far we’re following about 5-6 characters and two are standing out but being as they’re each in separate sections, I’m consistently interested throughout.

So far this book is really interesting! Having just read like 300 pages of Project Hail Mary and then this, I’m a little read out for today but it’s goo and I’m excited to see where this goes. I’m seeing a little of Fourth Wing in this

This books is soooooo goooodd. The first book shows more of a horrifying and solitary individual experience but this books is insanely world building building and so so interesting. To quote Kronk: “Ah yeahh, it’s all coming together.”

Prediction: Aunt L is a vegetable #broccoli

I’m noticing a few tropes. One of which that is becoming glaringly apparent is that there is such a shattering of trust among the community. Whether it’s the main character (wait what’s her name?) and other handmaids shaming Janine for being gang-raped or seeing people taking off the street (to the main character’s relief), the bonds shared between people inherently is lost. It’s surgical of the fittest…

Okay so I’m understanding parts, there’s a lot of PTSD happening here. Well more like TSD. I think I understand the hierarchy of Martha’s, Handmaids, etc.

I still feel confused a bit, I think it will get more clear as it goes on. The style of this book makes it difficult to know when something is being said by a character or thought by a character. Sometimes dialogue has quotes, mostly it doesn’t.

I’m a little confused at the premise but I’m getting the impression that women are essentially raised as cattle in this universe

Your mind is your bitch.

To think what you want to think is to think the truth, regardless of appearances.

Where you desire to be is the truth and if you fixate your mind on this truth, believe that it is real and already here, and take decisive action, it will manifest itself.

“Getting clear about what your unique purpose is can be the difference between living a happy, fulfilled life or living in the restrictive veal pen of your own indecision.”

1. Be the alien
2. Take the first right step
3. Do your best wherever you’re at
4. Don’t reinvent the wheel
5. Don’t get caught up in the hype
6. Listen to your intuition

I know you are but what am I?

How can you not care what others think and truly be yourself?

1. Ask yourself: “Why?”
2. Always do your best
3. Trust your intuition
4. Find a temporary role model
5. Love yourself

Outside opinions can be constructive, but ask yourself: “Is there truth to this?” If so, how can you do better? If not, choose to let it go.

This book is okay so far. I was not very interested to begin with but as mysteries are becoming more obvious and Bailey and Hannah’s relationship becomes more fleshed out, it’s pulling me in.

How to win yourself over:
1. Appreciate how special you are
2. Drown yourself in affirmations
3. Do things you love
4. Find a replacement
5. Ditch the self-deprecating humor
6. Let the love in
7. Don’t compare yourself to others
8. Forgive yourself
9. Love yourself

This is a lot to do! I might reread this tomorrow and the day after so I can cement these in my mind. #6 is about accepting compliments, that’s hard

“You are a badass. … It is who you are. It’s who you always will be. It’s not up for negotiation.”

I’ve heard this from Dr. John Delaney as well and while he states “choose reality”, it’s the same message. You find yourself feeling insecure or panicking, remind yourself what is - objectively, here and now. You need to believe you are amazing. It’s not optional. It’s necessary.

“Watching someone else totally go for it can be incredibly upsetting to the person who’s spent a lifetime building a solid case for why they themselves can’t.”

Ego or the Big Snooze (BS) will fight you when breaking out of your comfort zone (usually society based values). You have to remove the BS from your genuine desires and recognize that others are snoozing too when they feel you’re being reckless.

“If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you’re living in the present.” - Loa Tzu

There wasn’t much for this chapter. But it was a good reminder that our mind often fights being in the present versus being elsewhere.

“This is about your faith being greater than your fear.”

You don’t have to believe in God but you will be much happier if you believe in something.
