The love interest in this book is described as having "a vaguely Scottish accent". What's a "vaguely Scottish" accent? Is it a poorly done Hollywood Scottish accent or is it an actual Scottish person on TV doing their crispy, precise I'm On Telly voice? Is it a Scottish person who went to private school and sounds a bit English? I need to know.

Colin's journal entry about visiting the Highlands and prompting a prolonged argument between the locals over travel directions is so real. Anyone on Scottish reddit knows.

I really can't be bothered with the pearl clutching in the top reviews of this silly regency Cinderella romance lol, these are not real people, bodice rippers are not responsible for rape culture being baked into the fabric of society. Touch grass.

Anyway this is hot and extremely unserious - I've not been reading for fun because of my Eng Lit class. I'm feeling a bodice ripper summer now that classes are done.

This is a really annoying book to read. I'm enjoying the plot and the epistolary structure but I hate the way Stoker writes about women so much. Gives me the ick.

I don't know why I'm surprised about how witty this book is considering it's Wilde, but so far it's genuinely made me laugh out loud a couple of times.
