Michele Lee is on page 30 of 204 of Essential Asatru: Walking the Path of Norse Paganism
While the history lesson here is so fast and fact filled that I'm not sure I'm absorbing it all, I am realizing so many things. 1. I did not realize just how much of Europe and Asia were Viking territory. 2. Historically Asatru seems remarkably adaptable, almost like a comorbid religion. 3. Which also reminds me very strongly of vodun, which I've always felt a connection to. It's not just gods, but ancestors too.

Not sure I'm going to make it through this one either. The lead male seems to be a prudish, narcistic wimp. The lead female seems to be cliche trigger happy and also egotistical. Starting chapter 3 and I have no idea what the plot is other than Steampunk! Spy/crime novel.

Okay. Story 2 was decent, but too convoluted language-wise. This story has the kind of linguistic excesses that get made into the eyerolling cliches and stereotypes of the genre.

Arrrgh. Story 2 is the kind of fantasy that uses twice the words needed and sacrifices clarity for "atmospheric effect". And despite women being considered chattel property in this setting, somehow the main character is a judge/lawgiver. Not sure how that works.

Story #1: Blergh. So this woman that feeds on macho men exists. I can't tell you what she looks like, what she is, who she is, or anything other than she's an evil leech with a vagina, but she, like all women, victimized guys and profited off it. My poor guy friend. He wouldn't listen to me and now he can't win at poker anymore.

Uuumm...what kind of bad girls of fantasy anthology starts with a male main character bragging about his alpha male buddy (pages in and I'm just being told what a hard ads guy this dudebro is) who no doubt will be vamped on by a woman? When do I get to see a female character? Why should I care at all if this massively unlikable dbag dies?

Awful. If you want to read a bunch of Avengers being mean to each other and stupid/cliche, this is your book. So disappointed.

I'm tired of the "we have to convince the reader/unexploded main character that the magical world exists" style, but this book came at at the beginning of the UF/PNR trend, so I'm trying to be forgiving.Generally though I find it strolling because the reader knows they are reading a supernatural book. Why would the author waste 9 chapters trying to convince the character that the paranormal exists?

And now we have a long passage that while containing some historical truth is, at it's core a white guy fetishizing a native culture, turning it into some perfect, mystical, pure and true thing that he absolutely must force him, his wife and son into For Their Own Good(tm). We are smack in the middle of a white guy goes native, plus Mongol/magic negros, with a sprinkle of exoticism.

Yay! Dad and son bonding over horse back riding. Boo, every teacher and aide are just useless, over paid baby sitters and, of course, the therapists are also useless at best, abusive occasionally. Dude, you are struggling to handle ONE child with autism. they handle dozens, often at the same time. Smugness rating at 90%

I don't know that I'm going to make it through this book. It's VERY woo. White hippy family learns their son is autistic and goes on wild travels to have him healed by a Mongolian shaman because the boy has a magical connection with horses? Very smug sounding. If this is a "cure your autistic kid through nature" story I'm not going to make it.

I am adoring this book! It's a hilarious take on middle school kids with superpowers. I got it free from Netgalley, but now I'm buying all three books in the series so I can make my daughter read them!

Hmm. not really digging this one. the mc is a spoiled brat throwing fits & the entire culture is off. heroes are sooooo much better than humans, who *sigh* have to be saved by us supers all the time. I think I'd prefer a book from a human pov where they have to deal with these overloaded, super powered "superior" race.

I love this series so much, though I shouldn't because it is so very problematic, even for a book that takes on gender roles, sex & submission. It's like loving a movie even though you know the main character is an ass (hello, Scott Pilgrim!)

Finally! We are finally moving away from the Golden Age of comics and other people's takes on the meaning of the superhero and toward the author's view on things.

I have to read this one so slow because I can only stand the mentality of the author for so long. There's a lot of interesting here, but a lot of self-important rambling too.
