Interesting and cleverly written. Unexpected bits of humor were delightful.

I read this book when it was first published 40 years ago and don’t remember much except that I was thrilled to have finished it. Time to revisit this as part of an online book club.

Now I have come across this review from Ann Patchett. It is spot on. The writing style and humor are wonderful.

Just learned today that this book was the November 2025 selection for the Stephen Colbert book club.

Delightful! The Audible edition is magical with its narration. So many clever descriptions and a wicked sense of humor make this Irish ☘️ gal quite happy. Love the observation that one woman parishioner has been “thrice anointed and will not be leaving until her husband has gone to “the other place”😂. Thanks to Sr. Patty for the recommendation.

Well, another book about books, a touch of the Gilded Age meets a ghost and another book in which letter writing plays a prominent role. It is an interesting set up.

The theme of communication via letter seems to be having a moment in 2026.

Looking forward to reading this memoir written by one of my most admired regulatory colleagues.

This book has an “easy going” cadence that keeps the listener comfortably engaged in the evolving stories. It is a pleasant diversion from the craziness of our environment today. Soft, thoughtful conversations with insightful outcomes.

In true Fiona Davis writing style, I am hooked and constantly looking for an additional few minutes to see how the story is evolving.

Reading in anticipation of watching the Netflix program created from this book.

Maggie Anderson is an associate professor of English at Dominican. Looking forward to reading this book that has been referred to as an instant Chicago classic.

Excellent story development but the topics are difficult. It is haunting in a way because I keep thinking about it between listening sessions.

Recommended by Mark & Jenna in anticipation of our trip to Alaska. I love Kristin Hannah’s books and this has been on my list for years.

Delightful is the word that comes to mind as I think about the pace, humor and character development in. This book. Not too heavy for the beginning of a new year.
