Reece tortures the Russian - crosses Adriatic to Montenegro, figures out they are tracking his phone there

Scouts mountains & gets weapons from an arms dealer - Nizar is setting a trap / decoy and also headed to the mountains to watch for Reece to try to shoot the decoy

Reece is ambushed in Abelard’s bookshop by some Syrian boys with a backpack bomb from Oleg the former Russian special operator - Reece spots him in a coffee shop down the block as he heads towards him

They tussle in a butcher shop and Steve escapes him - Abelard shoots Oleg and they stuff him in the car to get away from police

Russians are behind all the attacks on Reece thru intermediaries - concerned about him finding a safety deposit box with a key his dad left him

Tibia takes Reece to Golan Heights to meet Aliya’s sister, Shiri

She is initially bitter at him coming and that her sister died for the state, but agrees to meet him when they go to bed

Reece heads to Israel to track down info from Mossad - they hide the files from him and the fact he was being recruited by their agency

Nizar captured by Burkina Faso intelligence and held in a helicopter - Reece joins Ox there

One of the guards tries to kill Reece with his AK - all hell breaks out and they crash - Ox & Reece looking for Nizar

Reece taken to a quantum computer at Lackland AF Base in San Antonio, way underground - self aware called “Alice” who tells him where Nizar is and how she can access any bit of data in the world - at LVL 8 of the internet she says

She tells him someone traveling with Nizar has cellphones & that’s how she knows where (Burkina Faso) - Reece heads that way

Philip tells the archbishop of Canterbury the story of what’s going on and he agrees with Phillip that it cannot happen but says he can’t do anything until he’s restored back in England to Canterbury

He says he and the King are in agreement on terms. Only the King won’t give him the sign of peace yet so the archbishop worries it may be a trap.

Phillip goes to talk to his bro Frances who works for the King

Chapter 18:

Phillip receives a letter from the King - he wants to make Waleran the 3rd highest ranking archbishop in the Church of England and elevate ArchDeacon Peter to be Bishop of Kingsbridge - all the monks say no way, but what can they do?

Phillip decides to go see the archbishop of Canterbury exiled in France - he is at odds with King and may be an ally

Ellen goes on to tell the story of her first husband, Jack Cherbourg and how Waleram helped to frame him for personal gain

Remigus is there to back up her story since he was in the priory back then - other monks back up the story

Archbishop Peter closes the case - Jack tell at Waleran wanting to know why he killed his father

At the trial, the presiding judge is the former Monk Peter Who Phillip had reprimanded long ago. Waleran presents his case and Phillip responds – he just took care of Jonathan because he was an orphan himself taken in to a monastery.

Ellen comes and tells the story about Tom the builder but Waller in accuses her of lying with no proof - she is enraged

Jack and Jonathan urge Ellen to come testify at Phillips trial that Jonathon is not his son

The only way to get Filipp out of trouble is for Jonathan to prove who his real father is because you can’t prove a negative (that Filipp isn’t his father)

Jack tells him he remembers finding a baby in the forest before they arrived at Kingsbridge when they saw the same baby in the Priory - his mother Ellen tells them about Tom’s original wife Agnes dying in childbirth

Waleran brings charges against Phillip that Jonathan is his illegimate son

Phillip fears that everything he is built here in Kingsbridge will come crashing down because his arch nemesis sits in judgment on him

Start Part 6 - 1170 to 1174

Kingsbridge Cathedral is complete - Kingsbridge has expanded and has suburbs now

Even William admits the cathedral is very impressive

William Hanley is made sheriff to circumvent Earl Richard

Richard kills Alfred as he’s trying to rape Aleana to avoid punishment he joins the crusades in Palestine

End of part 5

Some savage heathens attack Kingsbridge but have no leader and are easily defeated - Aliena has the idea that if Richard would lead the horde, they could go attack William and take back the earldom

A hurricane comes and destroys the village who was already suffering from a famine

Phillip tells Jack they have to lay them in off for winter early this year or they will run out of money

Towns people of Kingsbridge repel William’s attack after building the wall

William convinces WALLER to deny the annulment - Jack tries to convince Eliena to leave Kingsbridge so they can be together. She refuses to make him leave the cathedral - 2nd baby is due in 6wks or so

End of part Four 1142-1145

Part Five is 1152-1155

Jack confronts Bishop Waleran about why he hung Jack’s father - Waleran won’t admit it to Jack

William decides to attack Kingsbridge again - Richard catches wind and warns Jack & Phillip

They are going to try to build a wall from rubble & earthworks that week to deter William and his troops

Jack returns to Kingsbridge and proposes his new design. The monks oppose him claiming he’s living in adultery with Aliena because she is still technically married to Alfred.

Phillip tells him to appeal for annulment to the archbishop of Canterbury, may take a year, but he will be building the cathedral during that time
