Jim hangs around the island waiting for days

One night encounters Overseer Hopkins drunk on the island beach after his friends left, and confronts him about raping Katie and others - speaks to him in normal voice and Hopkins can't figure it out - kills him and puts him in his canoe with a hole in it out to the river where it sinks

Jim and Norman board a boat paddleboat but it blows up and Norman drowns as Jim hears Huck

Jim tells Huck he is his dad - they endeavor to go back to Hannibal so Jim can get his wife and daughter to run to Canada, but when they get back, discover they have been sold - Huck is going to try to find out where they were sold to

Jim heads back to Jackson island to wait

Henderson catches up to them with others in tow and starts shooting as they scramble into the river

They let river carry them - discover Sammy was hit and is dead on her log, so they bury her on the bank

Norman sells Jim to Henderson at a sawmill - the man whips Jim

He meets a younger slave girl there, Sammy and gets her to run away with him that night - meet up with Norman next morning and head out towards river as they are pursued

Need to get across somehow - start gathering wood and Norman goes to find some rope
