Absolutely riveting, I'm in awe of both the story and the writing.

Still waiting for something to happen. And I think I figured out the mystery at least 50 pages ago (but I'll correct my review if I am wrong - I love a surprise!). I'm just seriously wondering what the hype was on this one. Not bad, but not exactly holding my interest either.

The alternating mystery chapters are dragging me down a bit. I liked the idea of this book, but I'm kind of forcing myself to get through it right now.

OK, the author is now quoting Nassim Taleb so much that I'm starting to wonder if I should have just one of Taleb's books instead.

I just started reading this and I think I need to stop everything else I'm supposed to be doing (e.g., work, eating, sleeping) and keep reading until I'm done How have I never heard of this Richard Meadows guy? And what do I need to do to be his new best friend????

Nearly 30% in and I'm mystified that the FBI team spends lots of time talking to each other and having sleepovers with each other (platonic sleepovers, and no, I am not making that up) but not any time trying to catch the murderer. I'm about 5 pages from just stopping and reading something else. This is not a thriller, it's... I don't know, a story about oddly close workplace relationships.

Starting to think this is just a book about recovering from trauma. Was sort of hoping for the thriller/serial killer vibe of the first book. Hoping things pick up soon, I keep setting it aside but would like to finish it!

Yes I'm totally fan-girling and getting ready for season 3. I love this dark weird show and this book is exactly like what I would imagine Elliott's journal to be like irl. Love it.

So this was the president's (and many other people's) favorite book of last year? Ummm...not seeing it. But I will keep reading...it's got to get better, right?

So good I can't put it down. May have to call in sick to work today (cough, cough) to keep reading. Just wow.

I keep putting this down and picking it back up again, mostly out of boredom. How does this book make so many "best of" lists? It's so tedious and nothing ever happens. May have to permanently put it down.

Is it bad that I keep stopping this book to read other books? I feel like this middle section (although action packed) is somehow dragging. Long descriptions of settings and small physical actions (how many sentences does it take to explain that a character's handcuffs were removed and he stood up???). Guess I gotta muscle through...

So many words have been written about this book (that itself contains so many words), I feel it's almost shameful to contribute to the noise. I'm not yet halfway through, and honestly, for long stretches just forcing myself to get through it. Reading other reviews I hope there's a payoff at some point, but so far, very little reward for quite a bit of my time.

Loving this book! Not just a great (true) story, but there's so much about the culture, technology, and place of women in the late 1800s. I had never heard of Elizabeth Bisland so that component adds an extra level of interest. Great book so far!

I am really enjoying this book so far. I read Bayard's School of Night and liked it, but I think this historical mystery is even better. I was worried that having Poe as a main character would not work, but Bayard has certainly pulled it off.

My husband actually chose this one to read to him on a long car trip. We are both finding it just okay. Plot developments are very slow in coming, the same facts are repeated/explained over and over - it's just very slow moving. Maybe because this is the first book I've read in the series (and I think this is the 10th), I just don't care about the characters very much. Not sure when I'll get to finishing this one.
