Taking a break from back to back lit

Starting this book simultaneously as Onyx Storm.
Gonna be one hell of a contrast.

I forget how easy it is to read a romance than a lit fiction.

I can’t with this trope.

It always picks up at the end, huh?

I’m so invested in Theo, I’m so worried for him. Ughhh

Incredibly long read but a worthwhile one. It was difficult to get through this last part in Vegas. He’s only 15 :/

It’s a dense, meaty chew. But I love it. It’s been a while since I sunk my teeth into literary fiction, and it is a much-needed, warm welcome back. Every time I open The Goldfinch to read another beautiful page of writing, I’m delighted I did. My initial feeling is this book isn’t for everyone. I love a slow pace character portrait, and the first quarter is very much that.

Genuinely picked this up as a vacay read and it has been a fun little page turner!

Found a really awesome version of Sapiens while abroad and bought it for my home library. Has been recommended to me for years and finally getting around to reading it. Though some of this may have been covered in my past coursework, I do hunger for additional knowledge about our world and its constructs, and to understand people even better.

Started on the train from Porto to Lisbon. Seems like a perfect book for Ariana, and with positive impressions so far, for me too.

Casually picked up this book because I watched Dune 2, and I surprised myself by how quickly I tore through it. Nearly done, hoping before end of week.

Enjoying. The language is denser than I was expecting.

Just started. Because he wrote my favorite book (Middlesex), I need to read his other works too and finally.

Borrowing this from Laura as a little easy read between bigger literary works. Sort of regret it. The protagonist is insufferable.

I chose to read Patchett’s novel, The Dutch House, over her two other titles, Commonwealth and Tom Lake. This story of brother and sister had the slight edge. So far, I am enjoying her writing style.

Blowing through my long-desired read. This is one of those must-reads, a “book on writing if you love writing.” One note: I should have bought a different paperback. This one is a pocket, mass print version (my least least favorite publication!). Reading through 50+ pages yesterday led me to suffer a painful strain in my hand. So dumb!

Clare and Henry feel contrived. I’m not entirely convinced that they would be lovers.

I love Eastern European literature. Kundera and Dostoyevsky and Kafka.

I thought this would be a cozy read. It is not.

I’m fine with shifting narrators, but having 3+ perspective shifts in any one chapter is exhausting and way too cumbersome for a reader. It’s an interesting narrative decision when done well, but it’s not done well. Besides, I do like the story as a whole. I just think the writing is failing to deliver the story well. In short, the story could be better written.
