Early on, Christina Rossetti’s promise as a poet was stimulated by bouts-rimés, a game she played with her siblings composing sonnets using a set of end rhymes. Maria wrote out and dated her little sister’s poems. Christina’s first experience of her poetry in print was by way of her Nonno Polidori's printing press. Her brother Gabriel critiqued her writing and contributed illustrations.
