This is…shockingly bad.

Honestly the loveliest prose I have read in some time.

Finally getting interesting…

Maybe it’s my new postpartum brain, but this such a slog so far, completely lacking the compulsive readability of the first three books in the series.

This book is, for some reason I can’t pin down, absolutely exhausting to read. It feels like his statements/claims are so vague it’s difficult to parse them. The very existence of this book as written (a treatise instead of a poem— that is, truth first, not beauty) seems to defeat his own argument.

Who knew it was a common complaint in the 1490s that too many people were bringing their dogs and hawks into church with them?

I suppose it’s significant that Paradiso is always such a slog after Inferno and Purgatorio.

Funny that the most devastating ending to a Stephen King story wasn’t even thought up by Stephen King (The Mist’s 2007 film adaptation). The story itself is actually fairly underwhelming compared to that.
