This just gets more and more preposterous. How did the kid figure out ALL of their combinations? And know where to look? I suppose we will find out he installed secret cameras because he's a criminal master mind. OMG I'm so disappointed at how much I hate this stupid book.

I'm not buying the detectives in this novel AT ALL. They're making connections between random events that aren't connected and it's absurd. And trying to claim the dumb coincidences they've found make the suspect look guilty? PLEASE...

The author clearly doesn't know how on demand oncology nurses are. There's no way she'd be let go, and if she was, she'd have a good paying job in weeks.

Ok, I overlooked that the house with no electricity had a washer and dryer - they could have been some super old fashioned manual style I'm not familiar with. But a TV and VCR? No, I don't believe that. This book is absurd. And Mara sucks. I hate her.

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but I despise Ella even more in this book than in the first. My dislike for Adam remains the same, and I just feel sorry for Henry but hey, I'll probably end up hating him too lol.

I'm going to finish this but won't continue the series. The "science" is utterly ridiculous and the big twist is telegraphed from page one. This book just feels like a poor cousin to the Newsflesh series. Many of the same annoying traits but not quite as attractive or well dressed. Not sure why the author thinks repeating things over and over is good writing or why her editors let her do it.

I keep hearing about all the shocking twists in this novel. I'm 44 pages in and one of them is already glaringly obvious. Maybe there will be more twists that will actually shock me but for one of the major ones to be so easy to guess isn't a promising sign. Sighhh

I'm 100+ pages in and finding this very boring. I figured out the likely twists shortly after Noemì arrived at High Place. Now I'm just feeling aggravated that she is staying. She barely sees her cousin, who is ostensibly her reason for being there. The house rules are ridiculous and everyone in the house is odd and/or sinister. I would have been all "feet don't fail me now" down the mountain before now.

Why are the cops in these books always such morons? There isn't quite as much of the "keystone cop" vibe in this novel as there was in the first 3 but the trope is still there. I'm starting to remember why I stopped reading this series.

I first read this in 2014. Just finished the latest in the series and thought it would be nice to revisit the beginning. So many details I had forgotten!

Omg Mae is such a milksop character. I guess it works though, because anyone with a spine would have told the Circle where they could shove it. Participation is optional yet they're all over her for not participating? Who would out up with the invasiveness? It's absurd!

Ugh, the house can have Marion - she's selfish and overly obsessed with objects. I hope everyone else escapes though....

There are way too many things left unexplained. Way too many things that just don't make sense. Still enjoying the read but my star rating is dropping with each inconsistent or ridiculous thing that crops up.

I hate to leave books unfinished but I am not sure I can continue with this one. It's taking me forever to slog through and the scene I just read is ridiculous. Like a giant neon sign scream I ng " hello - you are being manipulated!" It really is that glaringly obvious but of course the main character falls for it....grrrrrrr

Oh and did I mention Allie is abusive? He forces his kids to do dangerous stunts... for idk what reason. What an asshole. And his wife is such a nonentity she doesn't even have a name. She is just "mother". I need a break.

It's a good thing that unlikeable characters don't deter me from reading a novel. The first person narrator in the one is so freaking annoying! So is the way she keeps speaking to her missing lover. I just want her to STFU so I can get on to the 3rd person chapters. Grrrr....

Did she seriously just call being gay a "personal choice"???!!!!! I'm not sure if this is author ignorance or is supposed to reflect the attitudes of the 80's but this pissed me off!

I hate it when an author sets a novel in the past then fails to do the necessary research to make sure the historical details are accurate. This book is set in 1986 yet the main character references a film that came out in 1988. A minor detail but still annoying!

2% into this and already the author has changed events from the first book. It is a minor event in terms of plot but should be a major one for the main character - on a personal level. Instead it's glossed over like NBD.

Also not sure I can handle any more of Ann's whining. It's fairly accurate from my experiences with teenage girls and humans in general, but it is not enjoyable to read.

I'm getting tired of this series. Gemma's "friends" are undeserving, selfish, foolish brats who are only using her for power. They constantly argue with her despite the fact that they are ALWAYS wrong. Some of the relationship dynamics do remind me of the complicated friendships I had in jr high and high school, but the author takes it to the extreme and after 2 books it is really annoying.
