I want to soak in as much as I can. I had to take the summer off to start reading the stuff I want to read without having any deadlines for ARCs. I’m back, Tom, to Somewhere I Still Feel Free! Thanks for writing this Mr. McKittrick. He is missed every day. Truly.

I’m only stopping because I can’t keep my eyes open any longer... it is a great book. I am picturing every little detail, down to the flood channels that I lived behind for years, like it was yesterday.

Spectacular so far, but you know me, you have to wait for the final analysis!

I am going back to the Prologue today because it has been announced that Trump has COVID.

“During the Top Secret President’s Daily Brief the afternoon of Tuesday, January 28, 2020, discussion in the Oval Office turned to a mysterious pneumonia-like virus outbreak in China...”

“‘This will be the biggest national security threat you face in your presidency,’ Robert O’Brien...”

What was done? Nada.

The book is written very well. How Woodward could piece everything together in chronological order is a mystery to me. I can just see myself on the floor of my living room with documents and copies of emails and transcripts scattered all around and me, curled up into a ball crying. 😂

It is hard to believe that this is Mr. Beatty’s first novel. If I wasn’t in need of sleep, I’d happily finish it tonight. More to come...

Out of the 5 stories, I have finished 4, and they have kept me intrigued.

J.D. Robb’s, “Chaos in Death”, was a little comic bookishy for me, but it was enjoyable.

Mary Blayney’s, “Her Greatest Treasure”, was exciting and a mystery until the end.

Patricia Gaffney’s, “Dear One”, was a pleasant story which was enjoyable, as well.

Ruth Ryan Langan’s, “The Unforgiven”, is my favorite so far

I am pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying this book. I have not read very many historical fiction books, if any, without any true reasoning behind my avoidance of them. This might be the book that changes my feelings towards the genre.

I am stuck. I don’t know if I can keep reading this book. The mistakes made about the forensics has thrown me off. I read her letter to the readers at the beginning of the book and almost died when she said she had written 19 books before this one. What other inconsistencies has she made in the previously written books? She refers to herself as a child prodigy in the letter. It made me gag. I think I’m done.

Even if every inmate has the same issued sneakers, that does not mean that there would not be any “distinguishing marks” on the treads. People walk differently and that reflects on the wear on the treads of shoes. You also have to consider tears, foreign matter, such as pebbles or dirt, or a small manufacturer defect in the tread. You can also determine size from shoe prints.
