I thought I should take a break before reading another of these immersive books in which I become attached to characters knowing the author is just going to put them through hell and the reader, too. But I can't wait. I'm starting it now.

AAAAAAHHHHH! 💔😭 Most epic fantasies have a bummer section, and I just hit this book's.
Do I keep going, with just a few days left of this library checkout, and try to cram 20 hours of book into a few days, or stop here and come back when the library hold comes back to me again? 🤔 📚 ❓

This (along with the Chrestomanci series) is my Episode 206 of The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon.

I have restarted this book on audio and love it. The language, the narration, all of it.

Well this just took an unexpected turn.

Happy to be taken away from the real world this week with a 45 hour audiobook. And there are several more!? Great.

Finally I've gotten to the point in the series where there are audiobooks on Hoopla. I started this and Hunter's Oath planning to decide which one I wanted to continue with, but they are both so good I can't pick. I read one on Kindle and listen to the other while doing stuff around the house. I am committed to all of these characters.

I almost wish I had started the Essalieyan series with this, in publication order, instead of a recommended reading order to start with the first three House War books (which are very dense and took me years to read.) I couldn't decide between reading this duology or moving on to the Sun Sword so I'm attempting to read them simultaneously. Like the seer Evayne, I am jumping around the timeline.

Now I wish I had someone to talk about these books with besides a ten year old Tor.com column 😭

Really enjoying this one. So many subplots and minor characters yet I care about all of them, even if it's hard to keep track of who is who with many characters having some minor variation of the same half dozen names (Sionedeleviva Rohaninananon Dannerdannev Andradyevela Tobrelanel Chaylila). There are things I strongly dislike about the protagonists and their culture, but it makes a very interesting book.

Well this book is bleak, bleak, bleak for chapters at a time. This is supposed to be my low stress read. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Enjoying this much more than the first book. It's a lot more interesting.

Enjoying this a lot more than the first book. More world building. Instead of a bunch of political intrigue blah blah blah that made me not sure I liked any of the characters in the first book, there's detailed descriptions of dragon behavior and the work of the lady scientist who studies them. I still am not sure I care for Rohan.

Time for my annual reread of this series.

I have a feeling I won't finish this before the library reclaims the eBook in 11 hours. Parts of this are just so slow and boring. The dialogue takes me or of the story frequently. Why would they use modern American idioms but keep referring to hours as "candlemarks"!?!?!?!?!?

A book I remember seeing at the library when I was younger but somehow overlooked. Plus it's on Hoopla and I needed another audiobook, preferably a fantasy book that wouldn't be too taxing after the intense book I just read.

I love this book so far.

I'm listening to a little bit of all my library books before the fast approaching due date (in case anyone see my rapidly increasing "Currently Reading" and wonders.)

This was recommended in a talk about (clinical) social anxiety, which I have. I'm waiting for the advice on when your anxiety is NOT illogical. I AM bad at small talk. My innate socializing style IS different from most people. People DO notice, unless I'm masking real hard, and masking is exhausting. Well, otherwise it's good so far.

I pick this up when I'm between other books and not in the mood for something difficult. I am not enjoying this but I am a completionist and like the other books in the series. I mean Shannara, not the modern day books where for some reason the teenagers talk like ...I don't know what, not teenagers of their era. I know this was before sensitivity readers but this book could have used one.

Maybe I'm not in the right head space or my expectations were set too high by the last book. All these characters are wasting time on petty arguments when they are literally supposed to be saving the world. UGH!
