I'm amused but not in love with this book I've heard so much about all of these years.

A very weird, not always understandable parable about the origins of human kind as viewed through a spy who penetrates a rural French Socialist group of revolutionaries. The writing is cold, the feeling is dark, the story is sometime engaging, oftentimes not.

Reading it is like being force fed steamed broccoli while sitting on a hard bench in a rainstorm. Grueling.

His recounting of a six week visit to Wales and England during WWII quite moving.

A bit tedious, not too interesting, literally an exchange of letters between editor and writer on prospective human subjects. Both men believe they are witty, sophisticated and intelligent and use eminent names in place of verbs.
