Solid thus far. There's always more to do as a Christian father in the home.

America had hope up until the Civil War doomed us. I'm convinced of this.

Enjoyable read thus far, though I imagine this book will really only work for you if you are of Scots-Irish descent like myself. Otherwise you're just going to be upset at how inferior you are to us.

I have found Bede's concise but spiritually rich recollections of Britain's past monks, bishops, abbots and holy men, the way they conducted themselves and gave their lives to God, to be most edifying and inspiring.

Jakob Bohme (Behmen) is illuminating.

Kierkegaard is the galvanizing and convicting voice many in the west need today. Chapter 56 on commentaries/biblical "scholarship" is pure fire.

This has been such an enlightening read. It becomes rather clear that the age in which we find ourselves is far more appropriately deemed "the dark ages" than those of Bede's time, when kings and nations were bending the knee to Christ and peoples were being converted by monks and bishops traveling far and wide. The story of the Aidan of Lindisfarne was really neat.

Fun, intriguing, motivating read thus far. Enjoying it. It helps that I love running these days as well, I suppose.

This is pretty great. Ethelbert of Kent's conversion was cool to read about. What I would give to have been a monk at Bede's time on that beautiful island.

'Can this be faith?' He wondered, afraid to believe his happiness. 'My God, thank you!' he said, choking back the rising sobs and with both hands wiping away the tears that filled his eyes.

Just a few pages left, and here, at this very moment in the story of Levin, I am so strongly moved, as that moment of faith's blossoming is so familiar to me.

All that day she had had the feeling that she was playing in the theatre with actors better than herself and that her poor playing had spoiled the whole thing."

A most palpable portrayal of life in this fallen, decaying world. Konstantin Levin, though a very simple and simply depicted man, is one of my favorite characters in literature.
