Rereading because quarter life crisis is so real.

Oh no... I feel like I won’t be getting along with this. The dialogue is TERRIBLE, everything reads like a bad sitcom, and the characters are TSTL, which I thought I would never encounter in litfic. Thinking whether to power through or DNF.

I expected this to be a creepy psychological thriller, sort of like Sharp Objects, but this is turning out to be neither creepy nor thrilling. I’m just mostly bored by it. Bummer.

I’m REALLY bothered by the dialogue. There are just too many dashes and italics and they make everything sound choppy. To think I still have 400+ pages of this to go...

It took me awhile to get into this but I’m just grinning like a fool at this point

Lol there’s a plague in this novel... never thought I’d read about a plague in 17th century Istanbul and think “ah, I can relate”

Talk about evil stepmother... this one’s the worst.

Reading this for my research proposal. For something formulated in 1987, Haug et al.’s method of memory work can still be easily applied to analysing a host of women’s issues today.

oooooh shit is going DOWN

Not sure what to feel about this... So far, it’s been a relentless parade of bad decisions and cringey sex and pining over an ex. But I’m willing to stick with it because I actually like Queenie. At this point I’m invested enough in her story that I feel like the friend who won’t abandon her at her lowest but who also wants to give her a good shake and tell her to get it together.

I started and discarded a few books before hitting on this one, and before I knew it, I was already halfway through. I’m really loving this so far.

Hmm... I really want to like this, but midway through I’m still not entirely invested in the story or the world-building, even if the writing is achingly beautiful. Also, this was supposed to be a short read but I’m beginning to resign myself to the idea that maybe this is the kind of book to be savored in small doses.
