I've realized I can't focus on reading any other book until 'A Trade of Blood' comes out so I'm taking a few days off (until August 4th) to do other things ~~

I don't know why I'm finding this book so boring despite being a book about pirates and adventures and an older female main character (which by all means, it's something VERY RARE and should be more appreciated) but alas, it's making me fall asleep. I'm upset at myself.

Almost cried realizing how much I'm enjoying this book. I don't know if I am/was on threshold of a reading slump or if I'm simply reading not so great books but this year has been tough in terms of reading (actually overall but I digress). Anyway, really liking this so far!

having a really hard time reading this book. Not because the content is THAT heavy but there's something about it that I don't like. Still can't pinpoint what it is but yeah, not a favorite.

I can already tell this is going to be my 2nd 5 star of the year... THE WRITING

This is 100% the kind of eerie, weird, paranoia inducing book I love and I'm here for it!

The way Claire North writes... I would rate even her shopping list 5 stars

I want to dnf this book so bad i can't believe this is happening I want to cry

For book 2, James Islington decided to describe every single grain of sand, every jagged rock, every big wave, every version of Vis like you are there with him, experiencing all of that and I respect that. I'm taking my time and enjoying the ride.

Lord help me, sometimes you crave a simple, very low stakes palate cleanser and instead get cartoonish/stereotypical characters doing the most nonsensical stuff and acting like hormonal teenagers despite being grown adults. Every single interaction is a sexual innuendo. The second-hand embarrassment is killing the vibe.

Also feeling bewitched 😂

I hate when authors make the readers get inside a male character's head because then you have entire paragraphs of men describing inappropriate (borderline harassment) acts towards women. It's almost a punishment.

This blend of genres (thriller + space opera) is so complex, if you blink, you lose 50% of the plot. This is a debut. Some people are just built differently.

Waiting for this book to give me a major plot twist that I'll not see coming from a mile away...
