Interesting plot twist about Hugh being one of the folks. Makes sense given his constant, weird pursuit towards Hester.

So far it’s kind of boring. The development is not really developing with Alosa and Riden’s relationship. I mean Alosa is kind of annoying. Determine which I admire, but annoying and just as cocky as any pirate while Riden seems to have more morals. It just seems everything is being thrown together. One minute she’s a prisoner, the next surprise she’s half siren. Not really as I interesting like I hoped.

Atlas is a great guy and has a lot to offer to Lily. Lily’s fear of how Ryle may feel about her possible relationship with Atlas is ridiculous considering she is now divorced and single. Put on your big girl panties, Lily and just dive in with Atlas! What do you have to lose?!

1) “I’m emulating my mother’s behavior, then that would mean Ryle is emulating my father’s behavior.” - 242

2) “Humans aren’t perfect and I can’t let the only example I’ve ever witnessed of marriage weigh in on my own marriage.” - 243

“Sometimes an unexpected wave comes along, sucks you up and refuses to spit you back out. Ryle is my unexpected tidal wave, and right now I’m skimming the beautiful surface.” - (218)

This is after he physically harmed her. I know what she is trying to say/think about the situation, but Atlas is right, she does sound like her mother.

Finally! Atlas is introduced!! Although with Ryle I’m starting to get the feeling that he’s not too much of a bad guy at all. However, I still do t trust him. Just because he does things that are out of the ordinary doesn’t mean he’s necessarily a nice guy. He wants to get into her pants and I’m afraid Lily already gave him what he wanted. You think the girl would learn from her parent’s abusive marriage.

So far I like the start of the story and the way the author starts talking about the past to get a fresh idea of who Atlas is through Lily’s teenage journals. I hate Ryle though. The man already got five red flags and Lily sees it as him being straight forward. I just want to tell her that his honesty is a toxic trait that he uses to get in her pants. She can do better. I’m waiting for Atlas to reveal himself.

Great climax of the first part but out of all the characters who are just terrible in personality, including Carden, I really, really, REALLY dislike Locke. Sorry if this comes out as some kind of spoiler.
