I expected something less compelling, to be completely honest. I’m glad I was wrong. Halfway through, and the tale has me in it’s grip, quite throughly. I’m making my way via audio book, and Robin Sachs seems the perfect choice as the voice/reader/performer as well. It’s among my favorite variety of surprise to find a book more to my liking than expected.

Maeve Fly is a pretty great character so far. CJ Leede has a strong grasp on crafting a memorable, striking sentence too.

I'm gobsmacked by how good this book is so far. King is already succeeding at giving me a terrible case of heartache. His character work is excellent in the early part of the book, and when he brings the sledgehammer down, it is heartbreaking. I didn't expect this lol.
