Lost interest. Plot and characters not hooking me

The worldbuilding comes in waves, like the incoming tide, and it fascinates me, the writing style, the voice, the techniques. This is definitely #research.

Peter's voice was low and smooth. Too smooth; like silk sheets, it
sounded good, but when you lay down you slipped right off and banged your ass on the floor.

"So," a voice drawled as the door opened. "You're not gay."
He looked up without moving, only his gaze traveling the room. "You heard that, huh?"
Peter laughed, not entirely nice. "Man, I think the whole hospital heard that."

During the 1980's, Soviet conscripts besieged by CIA-supplied Afghan rebels called them dukhi, or ghosts. The Soviets could never quite grasp or hold their enemy. It remained that way in Afghanistan long after they had gone.

Interesting, thus far. I like that McBride doesn't info-dump, but instead dishes out the details a bit at a time and leaves it to the reader to piece the story together for themselves. Intriguing method of story-telling.

I hope Michael's character changes through the course of the book. I expect he will; right now, he reminds me of someone. And not in a good way, at all. *lol*

LOL. *lolol* *reads some more* *dies laughing* It's beyond words. Not deliberate humor of the slapstick variety but, OMFG, I love it.

And now the protagonist is so emotionally distant that I feel no connection at all, as the reader. I want to like this book but the writing style leaves much to be desired. :/

Wow, the POV character is, at best, a petulant brat... :/

Had this one for a while, finally getting around to reading it...

Despite how far I've read, this one has definitely lost my interest. There's too much of the same emotive shit banging around in circles again and again, and it quickly gets old. It doesn't help that there isn't much plot aside from Colin's wooing of the guilt-ridden, emotionally scarred Malik. The boys are hot together, but I'm indifferent at this point...

Err.... WTF is an "ass channel" anyways???

Bothu’s complexion reminded him of snow saturated with dog pee and vehicle exhaust. The stringy red hair that seemed coated with shoe polish sure as hell didn’t improve his appearance any. ....rotflmao
