“Unconditional Positive Regard doesn’t mean the therapist necessarily likes the client. It means that the therapist is warm and nonjudgmental and, most of all, genuinely believes in the client’s ability to grow if nurtured in an encouraging and accepting environment. Unconditional positive regard is an attitude, not a feeling.”

“I wish I didn’t say it so often. I wish that my love for Sam wasn’t so casual and pervasive - so that I could save that phrase for moments like this. But that’s not very realistic, is it? When you love someone, it seeps out of everything you do, it bleeds into everything you say, it becomes so ever-present, that eventually it becomes ordinary to hear, no matter how extraordinary it is to feel.”

And I figured when that happens, you can let them pass by like a bus not meant for you. Or you can get ready.
So I got ready.”

Why can’t I get into this book? So many people love it and it’s a slog for me so far. I’m really hoping it picks up steam here pretty soon.

“Every day of my life feels as if I’m fighting my way up an escalator that only goes down. And no matter how fast or how hard I run to try to reach the top, I stay in the same place, sprinting, getting nowhere. But when I’m with her it doesn’t feel like I’m on that escalator. It feels as if I’m on a moving walkway, and I’m effortlessly just carried along. Like I can finally relax and take a breath.”

It used to be dangerous for me to read JP if I wanted to get anything done, but so far this one is dragging for me. I just can’t get into it. So much Egyptian history, which I don’t care at all about. So far this is more of a history lesson than a story and I’m not loving it. Really hoping it picks up soon.

Palimpsest (FR): the idea of the past blotted out, written over by the present.

“The first mark she left upon the world, long before she knew the truth, that ideas are so much wilder than memories, that they long and look for ways of taking root.”

“March is such a fickle month.
It’s the seam between winter and spring - though seam suggests an even hem, and March is more like a rough line of stitches sewn by an unsteady hand, swinging wildly between January gusts and June greens. You don’t know what you’ll find, until you step outside.”

I’m already in love with this book. I love when a book does that to me: hooks me in almost immediately, by having likeable, interesting characters and a very interesting premise. It’s a talent not all authors have, so I love when I find a new author who does it to me all over again - hooks me from page one. I can already tell I’m going to have a hard time putting this one down.

I've really stalled out on this book. I want to finish it, but it's starting to feel like a homework assignment I have to finish, and not something I'm interested in any longer.

I’m devouring this book. So far this is the most empowering book on money I’ve read since I found Dave Ramsey nearly 15 years ago. I love how simple she makes the concepts seem, but it doesn’t feel condescending. Already looking forward to picking it up again tomorrow.

As with all Richelle Mead books, this one has me so hooked I'm having a hard time putting it down. I was wary since I liked VA so much, but it's living up to those nicely so far.

This book is really dragging for me, I've read three other books since starting this one b/c I can't seem to make myself care how this one ends. The "one day" concept isn't pulling me in, I don't have any time to get attached to the characters, particularly since it's written in such a detached way.
